Murphy says tax records 'potentially compromised' by Musk

Source: The Hill

02/03/25 5:35 PM ET

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) said Americans’ tax records could be “potentially compromised” by Elon Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Murphy joined CNN’s Jake Tapper on Monday, where he sounded the alarm about Musk’s growing influence over the federal government, and its payment systems in particular.

Musk allies working with DOGE were reportedly given access to the Treasury Department’s federal payment system over the weekend, causing an uproar by Democrats. Tapper asked Murphy if he has an issue with DOGE accessing the system Treasury Department officials use to disburse funds.

“Of course I do,” the Connecticut Democrat replied. “First of all, every American needs to know that your information, your personal tax records, have been potentially compromised, that unelected billionaires and his Silicon Valley right-wing friends may have access to all of your personal information.”

The Treasury Department systems control $6 trillion annually and distribute funds for Social Security, Medicare, salaries for federal workers, payments to government contractors, payments to grant recipients and tax refunds.

And his Nazi children and tech bro friends. No telling where it will end up. It opens every one of us up to identity theft, theft of our money in our bank and other accounts, theft of our social security, doxxing, extortion, bribery, personal and financial destruction.

Furthermore, looking at this, I’m ABSOLUTELY CONVINCED Muskrat and his Nazis DID access voting machines in swing states and change votes.

They’ve stated they plan to do it in Congressional races, too.

Now the fascists have more data to use to psychologically manipulate US citizens. Is extortion psychological terrorism?

Psychological warfare that is coming from within.

The GOP steals elections. They absolutely stole 2016 and 2024. Musk absolutely inserted votes in all the right places.

We are not going to be able to vote our way out of this.

I was able to freeze Experian, but I've been on hold with TransUnion for 20 minutes after failing to get through on their web site, and the Equifax site is down for me.

As well as a security breach even more serious than what happened at Mar A Lago. At least up until Roberts granted absolute immunity for official acts. Who didn’t see this coming?

But I'd say:

Theft of Government property.
Hindering Government agencies from doing their work.
Seditious actions intended to overthrowing the US Government.
And, if the information he stole has left the country: Espionage.

I'm sure there's more, but this is enough to put him in prison for life, if he were to be tried for his crimes and was not pardoned by Trump.

People would be hired to look at voting machines. They found nothing, but the machines had to be decertified and replaced because of their incompetence.

All of the code and records should have a backup copy.. first have to have control established for the system by an honest group of experts. Then a binary compare done to figure out what the changes are to the code followed by the data. There is probably an endless stream of data that comes into the system 24/7. I went to the SSI site and made a hard copy so I can get my data restored if needed.

O-U-C-H.

The public requires oversight, backup, integrity, chain of possession. Integrity is why we have double-entry bookkeeping, balance sheets, income statements. The numbers have to match everywhere. If they don't, something else is going on.

I wonder if the opportunity exists in this rifling of data to skim - close, empty, lift, close - accounts which are dormant, abandoned. It takes generally 6 years for such accounts to become abandoned property in the private sector. Have no idea what rules exist in public sector. There could be legacy paper records - T-Bonds for example. Just throwing random ideas out there for those with more knowledge.

What happens if most of us contact the IRS and say we will not file our tax returns this year because we do not trust Musk -- or something like that?

Perhaps we could find a tax lawyer who could provide us with a letter in which we state that we recognize and acknowledge our tax liability, however, in view of etc,, etc, etc, we will complete a return but will not file it.
