Pam Bondi Announces Charges Against New York Over Immigration-'You're Next'

Source: NewsWeek

On Wednesday, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi announced that the Department of Justice has filed charges against New York Governor Kathy Hochul and state Attorney General Leticia James, both Democrats, for allegedly failing to enforce federal immigration laws.

Bondi said the lawsuit was also filed against Mark Schroeder, New York's Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) commissioner and the state of New York.

"This is a new DOJ. We are taking steps to protect American citizens. As you know, we sued Illinois, and New York didn't listen... you're next," Bondi said at her first press conference as President Donald Trump's attorney general.

Last week, the U.S. government filed a lawsuit against the state of Illinois, the city of Chicago, and Cook County in federal court, saying that their sanctuary city laws obstruct Trump's immigration enforcement policies.

I think they are ready.

DOJ and Bondi are over stepping. When the crash comes, their priority will be focus on other things.

Crack-the-whip grandstanding IMHO. Throw the same denials Trump used back at them.

“…filed charges” indicates a criminal indictment, but the rest of the story talks about DOJ suing NY, with the Gov and AG being the responsible parties.
I’m pretty sure this is a civil action, like all of the suits against TrumpMusk.

WASHINGTON, Feb 12 (Reuters) - The U.S. Justice Department has sued New York State officials over alleged failures to enforce federal immigration law, Attorney General Pam Bondi told reporters on Wednesday.

The lawsuit, which also names New York Governor Kathy Hochul, Attorney General Letitia James and the state's DMV head Mark Schroeder, takes aim at a "green light law" that allows people who are living in the country illegally to obtain driver's licenses in New York, Bondi said.

The department did not immediately release a copy of the lawsuit or any other documents providing details.

The lawsuit comes just days after the Justice Department sued Illinois over immigration enforcement.

"We did it to Illinois. Strike one. Strike two is New York, and if you're a state not complying with federal law? You're next," Bondi said.

I cannot imagine this civil case having any real merit

Pam Bondi’s big announcement? A lawsuit against New York.

Reality check: Neither the Governor nor Letitia James are facing criminal charges, and the federal government is likely to lose this case.

Also, let’s be clear, I fully support helping legitimate asylum seekers, and sanctuary cities actually reduce crime.

16. Bondi lied about criminal charges being filed

Bondi implied that criminal charges were filed. That was a lie

This is a fucking blatant and deliberate act of disinformation from someone who should goddamn know better. An Attorney General—one of the top legal officials in the country—doesn’t just “accidentally” confuse criminal charges with a civil lawsuit. The distinction is fucking fundamental, and the only reason to blur that line is to manipulate public perception.

By falsely framing a civil suit as criminal charges, they are intentionally misleading the public to manufacture outrage and weaponize the legal system for political gain. This isn’t just a mistake—it’s a calculated effort to distort reality, smear opponents, and undermine trust in the legal process. When top law enforcement officials engage in this kind of deception, it’s not just unethical—it’s fucking dangerous.
