Six arrested in new India bus gang-rape case: police

Six men have been held over the rape of a passenger on a coach in northern India, police said on Sunday, just weeks after the gang-rape and murder of a student on a bus in New Delhi sparked nationwide protests.

"Six men have been arrested on allegations of having raped a 29-year-old woman... after forcibly taking her to an unknown location on the night of January 11," local police officer Raj Jeet Singh said.

2. Indian women traveling alone are assumed to be whores

It's not that different here, just a difference in degree in the punishment women alone suffer. Here, it's verbal harassment on the street and unwanted grabass on public transit. There, it's rape and murder. The underlying attitude is exactly the same: men as human predators, women as dehumanized prey.

if it's women who have sex with a lot of different guys , well it's not right to rape those women either. it's not right to rape prositutes either. it's never ok to rape anyone.

Some reason there's this awful thing happening that was rare before. Like our mass murders happening in the last few decades but not before.

I wonder.......availability of porn? Violent video games have become the rage? I'd say social and poverty issues, but India has always had that. Oh....I'm gonna guess....WOMEN'S RIGHTS. Women are starting to have options, get degrees, get good jobs, get paid well. BINGO.

... but you have an excellent idea there. Something along the lines of those policewomen in Bolivia... I think in Bolivia, they don't shoot them, they just beat the tar out of them. But that would mean a GROUP of policewomen would have to ride the buses in India. I guess that wouldn't be feasible. Unless, of course, they were volunteers?

I do not beleive there is even slightest chance of rehabilitation for someone as sick as they are.

What we have is a society which has always valued men way above women, a society which has practiced sex selection abortion for a while, leading to a mismatch in the numbers of young men vs women. Women are trying to push the boundaries of what The society condones, and families and women can be more selective about potential marriage partners. Doesnt that sound like a potent combination for male rage?
