Businessman in fraud case ties Utah AG to scheme

Source: AP

BY ASSOCIATED PRESS

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Utah businessman accused of running a fraudulent $350 million software scheme says the state attorney general arranged a deal to pay Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to make a federal investigation into the software business disappear.

St. George businessman Jeremy Johnson, who’s accused of billing hundreds of thousands of consumers for products they never ordered, told The Salt Lake Tribune that newly elected Attorney General John Swallow set up a deal in 2010 for Johnson to pay $600,000 to people connected to Reid.

Johnson says be believed that Reid, a Nevada senator, might intervene in the Federal Trade Commission’s investigation.

Swallow strongly denies the allegations and maintains he only offered to connect Johnson with a lobbying firm. At the time, he was serving as Utah’s chief deputy attorney general.

Or the GOP is performing the Siegelman Maneuver. They have to be really unhappy with the guy.

It looks unlikely on the face of it. I'd guess the GOP must be getting pretty damn desperate.

  • Reid was never contacted and knows nothing; or
  • Reid was contacted, talked to the conspirators long enough to get some information which he waltzed over to the FBI

There isn't enough information in the piece to determine the level Reid's culpability , if any.

Johnson loves to push his personal agenda, the guy is a shyster of the first magnitude. Just Google his name and get ready to read volumes of history on this slimeball. Nothing new hear in Udah, same old just a new day and another Majic Undies Player doing his or her thing. There is no end to the corruption here, and you thought Chicago had issues. This one might be the deal that finally brings in the Feds to clean house.

BTW,read more on this at the SLC Trib site. Orin Hatch has a bit part in this, along with other notables. Harry Reid won't have any issues with this. Just another false equivalency story being ginned up by the Rethugs to smack Mr. Reid.

And so it is in Zion. Just another Willard campaign contributor looking for solace, yah right Jeremy,Karma is wonderful.

Curious mix - the Mormon religion and all these "business" people who are so corrupt.
