Rep. Issa Promises Investigation Into Aaron Swartz Case

Source: Techdirt

The backlash following Aaron Swartz's suicide has continued as Rep. Darrell Issa is now promising an investigation into the DOJ's handling of the case, according to statements he gave to the Huffington Post:

Praising Swartz’s work toward “open government and free access to the people,” Issa told HuffPost that the government's case against Swartz is problematic enough to warrant further investigation.

“I’m not condoning his hacking, but he’s certainly someone who worked very hard,” Issa said. “Had he been a journalist and taken that same material that he gained from MIT, he would have been praised for it. It would have been like the Pentagon Papers.”

He was one of the strongest voices against SOPA. This issue is entirely ideologically consistent with what he was talking about then.

Again, I don't like him he is a typical republican for most things, but this issue deserves investigation.

This was a victimless crime and they wanted to put a kid in jail for a decade for it. Wallstreet bankers destroy the economy and get nothing, but a kid gets a decade for downloading academic files?

Issa has no credibility, he turned legitimate subjects of investigation, Fast and Furious, and Benghazi, into clown shows.

But maybe the Democrats on Issa's committee can force a good investigation, who knows.

He doesn't give a shit about Aaron, he just wants to slam any Obama appointee and by that slam Obama and Democrats.
I do hope she is reprimanded or fired though.

Democracy is in steep decline right here in the U.S.
