N Korea 'to boost nuclear programme' after UN sanctions

North Korea says it will boost its military power and "nuclear deterrence" programme after the UN imposed new sanctions over a rocket launch.

North Korea also ruled out any further nuclear talks.

The country would "take physical actions" to strengthen its military force, the state news agency KCNA said.

The UN Security Council approved new sanctions over the December test launch of what it said was a long-range missile banned by UN resolutions.

1. China should be the most worried.

They are just now finding their national pride, yet they have 2 threats of nuclear war on their border (India/Pakistan, NK), and are toying with one directed at them (Japan is under our defense umbrella) and there is also a chance of another (Taiwan).

If you look into Oppenheimer's eyes during his famous quote, and don't get a tightness in your chest, or chills down your spine, you are too naive to discuss world politics.

2. China doesn't give a shit

Their only intent is to stop the two Koreas from reuniting as they see it as a threat. The problem with their view is that it wouldn't happen over night like in Germany. It would take years if not decades. That means the DMZ would have to essentially remain standing and a large peacekeeping force would have to be put in as well as construction companies in order to rebuild the infrastructure that is in shambles. The other issue is the US forces in South Korea, which would probably be kept here until full reunification was complete. I doubt US troops would ever set foot in North Korea unless they provoke us, in which case we'll bomb the shit out of them.

4. US Forces in SK aren't called the "tripwire" for no reason.

I think your point is off topic, as nobody is suggesting a unification battle. NK is rattling sabers, and testing missiles with the ability to hit the Western US. China wants no part in that. Although they cannot pubic ally scold NK other than the token "Please everyone go back to the table" charade, the last thing they want is NK unleashing on Seoul.

5. I disagreee, China has no real reason to reign in North Korea

and they have continued to show that over and over again as North Korea launches missiles and tests nuclear bombs.

If they reigned in North Korea it would eventually lead to the collapse of the North Korean Government given they have nothing to hold over western nations and their allies.

China has every reason to NOT want the two Koreas reunited and this is exactly why they will never take action against North Korea. Reunification poses a threat to China, thus it is in their best interest to continue to prop up and support the North Korean government.
