The press office of Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, on Wednesday announced a hearing on the nomination of Sen. John F. Kerry as secretary of state.
Kerry, a news release said, will be introduced to the committee on Thursday by Hillary Rodham Clinton, the current secretary; committee member Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.); and Sen. Elizabeth Warren, his fellow Massachusetts Democrat.
Whether such a closed and complementary circle will engender tough foreign policy questions remains to be seen.
Kerry has been a generally well-liked chairman, but many of the panels members are less than pleased with aspects of President Obamas foreign policy. Even Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) who was reminded last week by Kerrys staff that he does not yet chair the panel, which he will take over, but will merely preside over the confirmation hearing has his differences with Obama over issues as diverse as Cuba and Iran.
