LANSING, MI -- Michigan Republican leaders are considering a plan to divide Michigan's 16 Electoral College votes, changing a winner-take-all system that has seen Democratic presidential candidates dominate the state since 1988.

State Rep. Pete Lund made national news last week when he confirmed plans to reintroduce a bill that would award one of Michigan's electoral votes to the winner in each of the state's 14 Congressional districts and two electoral votes to the winner of the statewide popular vote.

Lund's bill failed to gain support when he first introduced it last year, a reality he attributed to Republican hopes that presidential candidate Mitt Romney would win the state in 2012 and claim all of its Electoral College votes.

Michigan's Republican leadership now appears to be warming up to the proposal.

it's my opinion that if any state has crazy enough right wingers in power with the gall to pass this nonsense it's Michigan. I believe the repukes in Michigan don't give a shit about appearances, they're going to do anything possible to grab power while they can.
