Reports: 1 dead, cars on I-75 overturned after tornado in Adairsville, Georgia

There is at least one storm-related death, and numerous cars are overturned on Interstate 75 after a tornado struck Adairsville, Georgia, the National Weather Service reported.

The twister touched down before noon in the city of about 4,600 located roughly midway between Atlanta and Chattanooga, Tennessee, the weather service reported, adding that two other tornadoes were reported in the region - one in east Lindale, another in southeast Calhoun.

Numerous buildings, some with people inside, were damaged in northern Bartow County after a tornado touched down Wednesday morning. One person is dead, and officials believe it's the result of a building collapsing, and the believed to have been as a result Bartow County Fire Chief Craig Millsap.

I live just northwest of Atlanta in Woodstock, Cherokee County. We have been under a tornado watch most of the day. The tornado watch has just been lifted for now. But I have been in front of the TV all day terrified that we will get hit. The tornado sirens went off once. I live in a mobile home with nowhere to run. The weather man said to get to the basement. What basement?

That's where they say to go, even though it's wet and miserable and scary. Living in Georgia you probably know all the tornado safety stuff, but I'd rather provide information that isn't needed or helpful than not provide info that might be.

to be in a low part of the land? I was only in a car once when I saw a tornado - they are not common here at all. Anyway, I did not want to leave the car, the tornado passed a block away, it was a small one. Still, I was wondering if it was just suggested to reduce a chance of being hit by debris or if it could help you if a tornado passed over you.

When there was a tornado warning and I was staying in a mobile home, I went to the park bathroom in cinder block and sat in a chair in the shower stall with my dog. Luckily the tornado dissipated before it hit us.

Tornadoes like flat areas. Even the small difference in hills between here and the much flatter area just 10 miles North of me makes a big difference in terms of weather patterns. They get tornadoes or tornado warnings at least once a year, and we hardly ever have an actual funnel cloud near us. There's virtually no 100% protection and this definitely isn't the absolute best option, but it is definitely better than waiting in a high risk place like a car or a mobile home.

Isaakson (yuck) and Chambliss (no words bad enough to describe that one). I hope ALL of New York's and New Jersey's congresspeople vote against any and all aid to Georgia, no matter what the disaster. And I'm a Georgian living in Mississippi and my family are still in Georgia. They need to elect better representatives.

I recall being in Wichita in '95 and trying to watch figure skating on tv with tornado alerts interrupting the broadcast every few minutes. Not just a ribbon, but a full map and details interruption. But that was in April - In Tornado Season.
