Shelley Adler, Rep Jon Adler's widow, seeks Dem nomination in NJ 03 against Rep Jon Runyon (R)
Shelley Adler, lawyer and former councilwoman in Cherry Hill, announced today that she is running for the Congressional seat of her late husband, Congressman Jon Adler (Dem) 2008-2010. Adler lost to football player and part time donkey farmer Jon Runyon in 2010. Under redistricting, the Democratic town of Cherry Hill is being removed from the 3rd district and given to the highly Democratic NJ First district. This will make this Republican leaning district more Republican. Adler was the first Democrat to be elected in this district since the 1880's (can't remember the exact year).
This is going to be a fight. But I think it may be winnable if young voters ages 18 to 22 who were too young to vote for Obama can be registered and engaged and if there is money and support for her.
She is going to run, as her husband did, as a supporter of the middle class and tax cuts for the middle class. Hopefully the fairness issue will have a lot of resonance. This district also has many retired military and older voters as well.
I frankly can't think of anything Runyon has done that he will be able to run on but given that he is a Republican, I'm sure he will have a lot of money for advertising.
I hope those of you out there will be able to support Shelley Adler, Democrat for Congress in NJ 03. That is both with money and with your time.

"Former Philadelphia Eagle Jon Runyan is getting a break on his property taxes for his lavish Mount Laurel homestead - thanks in part to his four donkeys.
Runyan, a Republican candidate for the U.S. House, paid $57,000 in taxes last year on five of his acres, which contain his home.
But on most of his property - 20 acres - he paid $468 in taxes, according to township records.
On his application for a farmland assessment in July, Runyan said he uses five acres as grazing land for his donkeys and 15 for timber, harvesting seven cords of firewood that he sold for $810."

Yeah, that'll play well in NJ03: Runyan's porky face next to Bachmann's maniacally crazed one.
