Dem strategist, fundraiser stabbed
Source: WRAL
Democratic strategist Nation Hahn and his wife, fundraiser Jamie Hahn, are hospitalized today after a bizarre stabbing attack Monday afternoon at their Raleigh home.
The couple were listed Tuesday Morning in critical condition at WakeMed. Sources close to the family say Jamie has been gravely injured.
Police say the suspect is Jonathon Wayne Broyhill, a longtime friend of the couple. Friends say Broyhill was best man at their 2009 wedding.
He's been charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
Broyhill also was injured in the incident and is hospitalized in serious condition.
There's no indication yet what prompted the attack. Raleigh police say the information they've gathered to date "indicates the events underlying the incident were not domestic in nature."

(1,245 posts)However, funny thing about knife attacks vs gun attacks ... generally speaking, unless you're like asleep when you get stabbed/sliced, you at least have SOME chance of being able to fight back/defend yourself.
Seems likely to me that he sustained wounds at the hand of the dude he was trying to stab. Hell, for all we know, he was defending HIMSELF against one or both of the others initially attacking him.
Unlikely, of course, but ... we know so little from this article that it's all just speculation.

(3 posts)I've lurked here for 8 years now and this is my very first post. These are my friends. I've grown up with Nation. We've gone to the same schools. Attended the same University, took the same classes. He's VERY involved with politics. He's one of the best people I know. A real, genuine, honest to goodness, great person. He believes very strongly in progressive issues and agendas and works in and around NC to further their goals. His wife is a saint. She's just as charming, smart, devoted, and self-less as he is.
This is a tragedy. I'm sending good thoughts and prayers their way. They both have hundreds of people wishing for nothing but the best.
They don't deserve this. This shouldn't happen to people this good.

(5,756 posts)Nothing in the linked articles indicates a love triangle or adultery. You should be ashamed of yourselves for suggesting such things when there is a total lack of evidence for them. These people are injured and one is fighting for her life and you're on here slandering her by suggesting she was in an affair with her husband's friend.
Why don't you try to get that posted on the front page of the NY Post. They seem to take stories with no confirmation or evidence.

(44,555 posts)And even the police have to start looking for evidence somewhere.
Besides, adultery and affairs may not have played a role at all -- unrequited love can be an equally powerful motive.

(44,555 posts)...Jamie Hahns family released a statement Wednesday morning that read, in part, Jamie lost her struggle to live this morning. We lost a beautiful and loving wife, daughter and friend. We all lost a pure and brave spirit.
...Raleigh Police arrested Jonathan Broyhill, 31, a close friend of Jamie Hahn and her husband, Nation Hahn...(who was) a frequent dinner guest...at the Hahns home. He and Nation Hahn grew up together...Nation was treated for his injuries...then went to his wifes bedside. Tuesday evening, he attended a prayer vigil in Jamies honor, hands and arms swathed in bandages.
...Broyhill was treated for non-serious self-inflicted wounds and taken into custody...(Police) did not say what may have prompted the attack, except to say that the events underlying the incident were not domestic in nature...

They did fundraising -- if the argument wasn't "domestic," was it about (missing) money? And I'm wondering where the murder weapon came from -- did Broyhill bring it with him, or did he use what was in the house? The perp's wounds being self-inflicted suggests a one-sided love triangle more than ever...hooray for me...

Suspect in Jamie Hahn stabbing made questionable campaign reports, ex-congressman says
RALEIGH - The man accused of stabbing political strategist Jamie Kirk Hahn is being investigated for questionable campaign finance reports he made while working for U.S. Rep. Brad Miller in 2012, the former Raleigh congressman said Wednesday.
Miller said he hired Hahns firm, Sky Blue Strategies, in roughly 2010 for fund-raising help in his 2012 re-election campaign, which he later abandoned. Jonathan Broyhill, 31, worked for her and would have been the principal worker with access to fund-raising software, Miller said.
Some of the things that Jon said about the campaign finances were inconsistent with other information, Miller said Wednesday. Its probably the case that Jamie was asking questions on behalf of the campaign about campaign finances. I think its bound to be part of the investigation of Jons motive.
Miller stressed that he does not know of any law enforcement inquiry into election money and said any investigation is limited to his campaign thus far.
Obviously, well have someone look at bank records and (Federal Elections Commission) reports and see if people shown on the reports were paid, Miller said.
A memorial service has been set for Saturday for Hahn, 29, who died early Wednesday from injuries suffered Monday in a stabbing attack at her North Raleigh home.

(3 posts)I'm absolutely heartbroken over this. There's no sense. A shining light in this world was snuffed out this morning. It's unfair. The entire NC community has rallied around Nation and Jamie. Their battles are not over and her beliefs and ideals live on in all of us.
