Disastrous Newspoll won't revive push to bring Kevin Rudd back, says Joel Fitzgibbon

Federal Labor MP Joel Fitzgibbon says the latest disastrous poll for the ALP has not revived the push to bring back former leader Kevin Rudd.
Today's Newspoll, published in The Australian newspaper, shows dissatisfaction in Prime Minister Julia Gillard's performance has climbed from 59 per cent to 62 per cent, while only 28 per cent of respondents are satisfied with her performance.
The two-party preferred figure shows the Coalition up two points and trouncing Labor at 58 per cent to 42 per cent.
If those results followed through to election day with a uniform swing of 8.1 per cent across the country, Labor would lose 35 seats.

I don't care what Kevin Rudd's faults might be, he's the only person who can turn this around for Labor.
The thought of Tony Abbot in power here gives me the cold shivers - many of his cohorts are as close to the Tea Party as you can get in this country - as ugly, racist, xenophobic, and elitist a bunch as you could ever expect to meet. They will put the interests of big business and mining companies before the welfare of both individuals and the country.
It will be bye bye socialised medicine, bye bye public broadcasting, farewell the "fair go", and hello to increased privileges for the elites.
I keep praying for a miracle - just a small one, God - but it isn't happening. I am in despair.

(19,348 posts)I know there is a mean strain of reactionaries in Australia. Abbott is one of them.
Labour needs to dump Gillard, even if they lose, Rudd will not allow Labour to be wiped out.

(6,384 posts)There's no doubt that Rudd was a control freak, but he had some very good ideas, many of which have formed the basis of Gillard's rule, and he was enormously popular with the electorate. And that counts.
It's very telling that all polling shows that every Labor MP in Queensland with probably lose his seat at the next election - except for Kevin Rudd.
