Source: BBC News

Hungarians have been warned to prepare for their country's worst floods ever as the Danube is set to reach record levels this weekend.

"We are facing the worst floods of all time," said PM Viktor Orban.

Europe's second longest river is set to hit unprecedented levels in the capital Budapest in the next few days.

Wasn't there record snows there this winter? Is this rain, snow melt or a combination? freshwest Jun 2013 #10
Don't think it was snow related dipsydoodle Jun 2013 #11
Thanks. And hoping the rain won't take the snowpack. We need snowpack in summer for water and power. freshwest Jun 2013 #12

Another large storm heading up the East Coast. Stronger tornados centered in Oklahoma. Climate experts say that climate change is causing a shift in weather patterns.

profit hungry corporate power mongers. What will bite all of us in the ass will bite you too. It's the only condolence I have. May (you) reap what you sow!

I was there for 6 weeks 1959 when this happened : http://www.britishpathe.com/video/floods-ravage-austria-aka-floods-in-austria/query/rivers

Please explain using your reasoning.

improving emergency responses and looking into geo causes didn't help them then--it just happened again later!

some places are just unlucky, like the Mississippi and Florida. And Bavaria.

There are fluke circumstances aside from the effects of climate change. In the area I was in they'd already learned from the past right down to knowing which forest trees to cut and which houses to let go in order to steer landslides in an orderly manner.

That would've been gradual and long gone.

There's an explanation here in the link below. Was a blocked weather pattern causing continuous heavy rain on ground already waterlogged from the wet spring.

Hope everyone will be able to get away from the flooding.

This is a multi-layered city (Budapest that is) that has ancient ruins/structures going back thousands of years.

Over time, as one layer collapsed, another has been built on top of it. It is not the kind of place that needs a huge flood of any sort at all.

Take care everyone and please stay safe!
