Tech giants 'made it easier' for Prism surveillance program to harvest data

Silicon Valley's tech giants worked with the US government to 'make it easier' for them to gain access to the private data of users under the controversial Prism initiative, the New York Times reports.
Companies like Apple, Google, Microsoft and Facebook were 'compliant' with the National Security Agency (NSA) in discussions over how to enable the 'lawful' sharing of personal information, the report claimed.
According to the Times' Claire Cain Miller, the companies "opened discussions with national security officials about developing technical methods to more efficiently and securely share the personal data of foreign users in response to lawful government requests."

If we go further down this slippery slope and actually do start planning how many mpegs will fit on the head of a pin....
It's a gold mine. Oh, the money to be made! Oh the profit!
Rest assured people like Seagate, Western Digital, IBM, Intel et ALL have lobbys.

If all they were going to keep was call origin, call end point and call duration for just one carrier for only a three month (at a time) archive.
That is a whole bunch of bucks under one roof.
My bet is that it's bigger than that.
My bet is that lobbyists for hardware, software and maintenance providers are all over our elected officials calendars.
Aaah, but all we have to do is blame Obama and it will all be good.
Just like background checks, ya know.

(84,711 posts)when they were flying back and forth to Russia and one of the brothers didn't become a citizen because of a legal charge.
They were supposed to be being monitored by FBI and even met with agents...
But the Elderly were asked to get out of wheelchairs to be examined by TSA agents and little kids were body searched, other harassed and most of our traveling necessities confiscated if they were liquid or aerosol or looked suspicious. Even gifts purchased on trips were confiscated if they didn't look right.
We've suffered as citizens yet Boston Bombers for some reason allowed to function freely even when Russia Flagged them.
What a waste of money keeping us terrified while we lose our civil liberties.
