Suspect in deadly building collapse denied bail

Source: CNN

The crane operator facing charges over a deadly building collapse was denied bail Sunday.

A Philadelphia judge refused to allow Sean Benschop, 42, to leave jail.

He is charged with six counts of involuntary manslaughter, 13 counts of recklessly endangering another person, and one count of "risking a catastrophe," District Attorney spokeswoman Tasha Jamerson told CNN.

Wednesday's building collapse in downtown Philadelphia left six dead and 13 people injured.

backhoe operator pot head. This was the result of a lot more than an allegedly buzzed operator.

The demolition plan was fundamentally flawed.

What was he doing at work injured? Oh, no sick leave.

But, at the end of the day, there is no way the store should have been occupied if one error was going to bring a wall down on those people.

Thank God for the foreman, the contractor, the owner, and the city, that this guy had something in his system. They can all blame him and walk away.

What do his prior arrests have to do with this? Why are they even mentioned? I hate when people are described as a felon or an ex-con, as if they were a different species and shouldn't have a job (or even food if some have their way).

Since when can they determine if someone is high on marijuana?

points to a lack of responsibility on his part. And the fact that he smoked pot while knowing that he may have to work on heavy equipment at some time shows he has a lack of respect for people's lives. I love beer. I get Thursday and Friday off work. I'll have a couple of beers Wednesday when I get home, and maybe 1 or 2 on Thursday evening, but I won't drink at all Friday when I have to get up at 5:30 Saturday morning for work.
Yes the owner of the company should be in jail. So should other people involved in his debacle. But this guy was irresponsible and made a terrible mistake. He's going to have to live with it.
He deserves to be in jail.

It has nothing to do with his present behavior.

There is no way that I know of to determine if someone was high on THC at a particular moment. THC stays in the system long after the high wears off.

Seems you have already found him guilty based on nothing more than a news article with irrelevant information.

7. And the fact that

He had THC in his system shows that he hasn't learned from his past. He was keeping up the same behaviors that got him into trouble in the first place. Then there is the fact that his mistake, and the mistakes of the company that he worked for, cost lives shows that he shouldn't have been in that seat in the first place. Someone, after all, hired this guy. That points to bad employee screening practices.
And I haven't found him guilty. I *think* he is. He looks like a massively drugged out person that shouldn't have been trusted at Burger King, much less operating heavy equipment. But my opinion has no weight at all. There will be a full investigation, and I doubt he will be getting out of it. He messed up big time.

but get the contractor and keep going up the ladder. Apparently, demo contractors are not required by the State or city to be licensed or to even show proficiency in tearing down buildings.

Let's hear it for de-regulation.

This guy, the scab contractor, the owners of the building, the L&I scumbag that signed the permit, the mayor for being a fucking douchebag that encourages this type of behavior. Everyone. Sue em all too.
