Mike Huckabee: “we’re now even seeing television commercials portraying same-sex couples”

Source: Salon

Former Arkansas Governor, nutritionist and Capitol Offense frontman Mike Huckabee is speaking out against the attacks against homophobic people. He’s tired of homophobes being told that their views are, well, homophobic. And he’s tired of the homosexualist attack against heterosexuals.

Huckabee spoke with Concerned Women for America head Penny Nance about his concerns on the radio on Monday, saying,

The very thing that many people and I know CWA was a part of this, saying, this is why the legalization of same-sex marriage is going to be a much bigger issue than just saying we let people love whoever they want to love, that’s not the issue. Will it force businesses — of course everyone will say, oh no people still have their rights, but they don’t. And every fear that people had has in fact come true, that this is being forced in textbooks on how marriage is depicted, we’re now even seeing television commercials portraying same-sex couples, that’s something I guess I didn’t expect to see anytime soon.

Huckabee is understandably distraught that he’d live to see the day when some people started to see LGBT people as equals. It is troubling. More and more people are losing their god-given right to discriminate. I’m not sure which commercials he’s talking about, since I haven’t seen too many featuring the gays. But Will and Grace was bad enough. Nor am I sure about the textbooks. But I sure hate the homophilic message in And Tango Makes Three, the dangerous tale of gay penguin lust and child rearing.

That was exactly what I was thinking. I do not recall seeing any same-sex ads lately, just the Cheerios one.

I know bigots are using the exact same language for marriage they used for mixed race couples back in the 50's as for gay couples today. Makes me wonder if he got confused and really meant to use the original 1950's language.

And he is just confusing his racist and homophobic views. Or perhaps he is attempting to conflate the two, thinking it would be less offensive to use the homophobic example as a bridge to his racism rather than being upfront about his racism.

People like Fuckabee think this is about morality. Nope. As that great philosopher Don Vito Corleone said, "Business is business."

"The Fosters"

Sherri Saum of ABC's new sitcom, "The Fosters," which boasts Jennifer Lopez as executive producer, recently chatted with Elixher.com.

During the candid interview about the series that highlights a multi-ethnic lesbian family, the actress discussed preparing to play a lesbian, being judged by real lesbians and more.

When asked what type of response Saum has received in regards to the show, the actress, who has also appeared on "Girlfriends", "Charmed" and "Gossip Girl," said that the response has been "overwhelming" and "genuine."

"Everybody has just been so sincere about how much they enjoyed the show and how much they were surprised they enjoyed [it]," she said. "ABC Family maybe wouldn’t be their first choice for television but they were pleasantly surprised."

You won't see same sex commercials on Fox or during Nascar, Football, Baseball or on the History Channel. But channels that are primarily watched by women or gay people like E, Logo or OWN will have them and they should.

Most Americans support equal rights for LGBT persons and a plurality support marriage equality.

There are of course pockets of the demographic such as Faux News viewers, residents of some states, especially in the South, and the rabid born-again "Christians" that love using hatred and discrimination against others as a way to feel superior. I suggest much of this has to do with an inherent sense of being inferior and inadequate. It is a classic psychological reaction.

People are growing used to seeing same gender couples (with or without children, single parent situations, mixed race, etc. on television and throughout media without ever batting an eye. Again it is only the narrow demographics that have an issue with these. Luckily their number is in decline and many of them are dying off.

I tend to spend my days conversing on subjects I find interesting, pleasing, amusing....
