UN says nearly 93,000 killed in Syrian conflict

Source: Associated Press

GENEVA (AP) — The United Nations says almost 93,000 people have been confirmed killed in the Syrian conflict, but the real number is likely to be far higher.

The U.N. human rights office says it has confirmed the killing of 92,901 people between March 2011 and the end of April 2013.

The U.N.'s top human rights official, Navi Pillay, said Thursday that more than 5,000 killings have been documented every month since last July.

That includes, she said, just under 27,000 new killings since the start of December.

article in the Durham Herald Sun, entitled "Iraqi fighters' Syria role hikes tensions". The article essentially said Iraqi Shiite fighters mobilized to fight alongside President Bashar Assad's forces against rebels. One fighter was interviewed by the AP, claims he already served two tours in Syria and was getting ready to go back. It also highlites the conflict going on in Iraq now.

Iraq's Government claims it has nothing to do with Shiite fighters heading there, but because of the threat by Sunni extremists, trying to overthrow the Assad Government. Just how many of those 93,000 people characterized by the U.N. are foreigners? The Syrian military, has killed a lot of foreigners. Syria is just a battle ground in this War. Members of the U.N. are part of the problem also. You can also claim it is a U.N. led War, by certain members. When you openly call for forceful regime change and get resistance, you can expect deaths. That is the nature of Wars. Why don't the U.N. also give the Death toll of the War in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Has it crossed the 93,000 figure in this one?
