(3,596 posts)Based on the facts as we know them, something had to be going on either in the cabin or there was some external threat (e.g. a telephone call with alarming or threatening information about the aircraft). RAF would not normally accompany a civilian aircraft if it was a standard medical emergency, etc.
But I am going to be a bit cautious in believing some of what will come out in the news in the next 6 months. I fully expect made up stories about threats that were averted due to our Big Brother watching our every move. The NSA is going to fabricate out of whole cloth facts and stories that justify their existence, just like Go Cheney yourself did with the facts that led us into his war of choice in Iraq.

BBC producer Nada Tawfik, a passenger on board, found a note in the plane's toilet with the words "I'll set this plane on fire" and a seat number.

Ms Tawfik, who was travelling with her young daughter, said she found the note - written on a napkin with a pencil - inside the sink about three hours into the flight.
She immediately reported it to cabin crew who then locked the toilet.
"It almost looked like a child's handwriting or someone who has very sloppy handwriting, but it was very alarming especially these days when everyone is so concerned about safety on flights," she said.
