Paula Deen: A no-show on 'Today'

Source: Philadelphia Inquirer

Embattled celebrity chef Paula Deen skipped her scheduled appearance on the "Today" show Friday morning.

The NBC program had been promoting an exclusive, live interview with the Food Network star upon her controversial admission of using racial slurs.

At the start of the program, Matt Lauer shared, "Paula Deen was scheduled to do an interview with us this morning, live in our studio, but we just found out, she’s a no show." The show host added that he had spoken to Deen on the phone Thursday night ahead of her appearance. "She has not called us at all this morning," said Lauer, although the studio did get in touch with Deen's rep who said the chef was "exhausted."

The interview was meant to be a "no-holds barred" conversation.

Doubt very much if she can survive this. "It was a joke" just made the original comments seem even worse.

I would expect Food Network to pull her shows from their
line-up and soon.

She's an idiot, plain and simple and now we know she's a big ol' chicken, too.

Just stay away, Paula - now that we know what you're really all about, you're not going to be received by polite folks.

Appreciate the much needed levity, and it's appropriate because she is a joke. She's a joke in the laugh at her not with her kind of way.

racist rants I just can't watch. Shame because she should have gone on Today Show and said I screwed up and please forgive me. I will do better in the future. She didn't. I read on Radar Online yesterday that she gave the excuse she was old. Sorry that isn't an excuse.

I'm not a Bourdain fan either ( he always struck me as being very very rude) but at least he's not a bigot!

On his new show on CNN he went to the Congo and talked about the dictatorship under King Leopold of Belgium and how they would kill workers or cut their hands off.

There was a KKK meeting - attendance mandatory - and she had to go to that instead.

She very likely wasn't exhausted, she was out like a light.

This is probably a shock to her system, to go from beloved, folksy, fun, jolly three-thousand-calorie, fried chicken and mac-n-cheese eatin' comfort food cookin' down home mama, to mean, b-wordy racist, all in the blink of an eye.

She's probably still in the "denial" stage.
