Their epitaph. The women of Texas are not going to forget the war waged against them by these republicans.

Mississippi tried to do something similar, and it was soundly defeated at the polls. Now Texas is going in the back door behind the people to pass this. Not only will it be challenged in the courts, but, waste a lot of time and money that Texas cannot afford to waste on unConstitutional issues.

This is like free advertising for the Democrats, what the nutcase republicans have become.

I guess they did not learn from 2012.

Like the story of the mule who would not move, the guy took a two by four and hit the mule. A passerby asked, why did you do that?

The response was you need to get the mules attention first.

The mule in this case is the Republican Party, and they are not paying attention

Please Rick perry, please run in 2016, please, please, please, and run on the war against women, and your racist sign that was on your property

Not sure what that quorum might be or if enough Republicans are in office to fill it on their own but I find that unlikely...I think democrats could miss a day or two and deny a quorum but this is a 30 day special session. I think the ONLY thing that might make a difference is if thousand and thousands of people show up to protest this. I mean many many thousands of people... Lucio actually could have voted with Republicans to bring the bill to a vote on Monday, which would have forced a 24+ hour filibuster, but voted on a procedural issue with Democrats to not permit the bill to be brought to the floor until Tuesday so that Sen. Van de Putte (she of the great line from last night) could attend and not miss it due to her father's funeral.

See the 4:29pm stamp halfway down the page.

I think Lucio knew the bill was going to end up passing at some point anyways and did this to try and remain in the Democrats good graces (even though everyone in Texas has known him to be a DINO for some time now).

individual issue may not be saved in this special session. Public awareness can help spread information about the bigger picture and neo-con hijacking of democracy. Good lord, British websites had a live feed last night and almost two hundred thousand watchers. C'mon folks. This is our opportunity to plant the seed. Facebook, twitter, op-eds in the local paper. This isn't even about abortion rights necessarily. It's about a governor who is trying to advance a personal theocrat agenda by abusing rules of law. He is wasting the time and money of his state. One of the laws they're trying to pass says that on Plan B type pills, an old protocol that uses 3x the amount of medication necessary will be required by law. It does not matter what the recommendations of the AMA or your doctor are.
Let's make sure all the issues are covered. Those who aren't sympathetic to the abortion rights issue need to be awakened to the bigger picture.

Expect him to put the transportation bill on the agenda first since that is the most essential bill. The death penalty bill isn't that a huge an issue. The abortion bill will be introduced after the transporation bill.

I doubt that if there were a million people at the Capitol if a protest would work. We know that the Republicans will cut off debate regardless how many people wait to testify.

The only way to stop the governor from his hellbent maneuvers will to keep him from having a quorum ever. This might mean that Texas will have to put up with the sorry transportation infrastructure in a move to coerce the Democrats to meet and declare them as obstructionists if they fail to do so.

The Texas Constitution calls for the 32-member Texas Senate — 31 Senators and the Lt. Governor — to have a quorum of two-thirds of its members present in order to conduct a vote, which means that the absence of 11 members can prevent the Senate from voting.

One day the earth will be washed clean of this dirty filthy mindset -- the GOP are losing minorities, women and intelligent people in general -- all they got left is religious zealots and ignorant Fox viewers.

Guess you dance with the one that brung ya.... but that's a dance ending very soon

The fox trot has come and gone....

The transportation bill will come first since it is the most urgent and can get bipartisan support.

The death penalty bill isn't that huge of an issue.

The abortion bill(s), let's remember that two were already killed in the calendar process, will be set after the transportation bill but with plenty of time to get it passed. There will be ample time for any filibuster to fall apart. No matter how many people are there to protest the Republicans will ram this bill down our throats and will cheat to win if necessary. The only way to win is to keep either chamber from having the two-thirds necessary to form a quorum. The legislators could try to leave the state, but then the governor gains the upper hand by declaring that Democrats are obstructionists.

The special session will cost $1.2 million, and a few million more will be spent on lawsuits because the Republicans have to have their way.

By the Republicans of Texas pissing off almost every woman in the state?

Maybe this is what we need to get some more dems elected and replace Rick Perry! Or even better, (since the governor is one of the weakest positions in the state) we could replace Gregg Abbot and David Dewhurst!!!!

Probably nothing but wishful thinking but maybe, just maybe, this is what we need to get lightning to strike twice?

She offered her hand to Clayton Williams and he refused to shake her hand. His lack of manners and insult to his opponent cost him big time.

the regular quorum rules that require a 2/3 vote of both chambers can be relaxed and only a simple majority is required.

She actually clarified for me the questions/concerns I had about this.
