Pat Buchanan upset by Pope Francis: He is losing the culture war

Source: The Raw Story

Pope Francis is bordering on moral relativism by refusing to berate atheists and condemn LGBT individuals, according to conservative columnist Pat Buchanan.

Writing at Townhall on Friday, Buchanan said Pope Francis was attempting to move “the Catholic Church to a stance of non-belligerence, if not neutrality, in the culture war for the soul of the West.”

Neutrality in the culture war, he wrote, citing Trotsky, meant losing the culture war.

Buchanan isn’t pleased that Pope Francis described attempting to convert people to Christianity as “solemn nonsense.” The pope has said that Christians need to listen to others and “discover new needs” rather than lecture them.

Puppies always have to chew and play and run and discover the world. Older dogs are calmer and more composed. A 2 year old dog is more interested in what you are doing, than a puppy who needs to see what is happening everywhere. Even 4 and 5 year old dogs are more willing to sit still and pay attention to what their master's want.

So maybe the saying should be, "You can't teach an old racist new tricks".

Thus, Buchanan's problem with the Pope.

I imagine the pope cares about as much about what Buchanan thinks as I do. Probably less, since I at least know who Pat buchanan is.

Poverty, humility, kindness and love are the hallmarks of the teachings of Christ. This pope appears to be living those characteristics.

But that doesn't fit into Pat's worldview. He likes being rich. He has no interest in helping anyone other than himself. He likes being able to feel superior to atheists and LGBT persons.

It is just so inconvenient to have a pope that actually practices Christianity.

and Newt Gingrich, Laura Ingraham, etc.

We did hear from Scalia...

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Saying he was “sorry it had to come to this,” Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia said today that he was forming an “independent search committee” to select a new Pope.

The visibly upset jurist appeared at a press conference with the sole other member of the newly formed search committee, Justice Clarence Thomas.

Justice Scalia said he had “no other alternative” but to pick a new Pope himself after reading what he called a “disturbing” interview with Pope Francis today: “The Pope said he doesn’t want to speak out against abortion and gay marriage. Well, sorry, my friend, but that’s the entire job description. You should have thought of that before you let them blow that white smoke in Rome.”

Justice Scalia acknowledged that only the College of Cardinals has the legal authority to choose a Pope, but added, “Quite frankly, those jokers got us into this mess. Right, Clarence?”

Justice Thomas had no comment.

Good on him.

I also notice media outlets like EWTN are also silent on this pope. In the past, EWTN has practically embarrassed itself with its lavish praise of the papacy. Now...crickets. I also see that as a very encouraging sign that a lot of the conservatives are getting the message that the Church is Under New Management.

Not sure Pat actually knows what it means to win at something. Regardless of what one thinks of the Pope, The Catholic Church, etc. Pope Francis has done a pretty amazing job on the PR front simply by acting more like a compassionate human being than his predecessors. I will never be Catholic, and don't like the Catholic Church, but I'm not blind.
