Bradley Foundation continues to fund Wisconsin's conservative websites
Source: The Cap Times
It will be almost another year before we start to figure out what nonprofit groups were up to in 2013, but the publicly-accessible tax documents from 2012 are finally beginning to trickle in. And once again they show that conservative groups in Wisconsin are largely underwritten by one powerful Milwaukee-based group, the Lynde & Harry Bradley Foundation.
Bradley, which reported assets exceeding $600 million in 2012, doles out money across the country to conservative political groups, such as Americans for Tax Reform, the Heritage Foundation and Americans for Prosperity.
But their money is particularly influential in Wisconsin. Bradley's CEO is Michael Grebe, a former UW regent, former chairman and CEO of the Foley & Lardner law firm and co-chair of Walker's 2010 gubernatorial campaign.
The biggest Wisconsin beneficiary of Bradley's largesse in 2012 was American Majority, a group that trains conservative activists to run for office and also runs an online investigative website, Media Trackers, that aggressively seeks to dig up dirt on Democrats and liberals.

(84,711 posts)I've seen their name here and there...but, whatever...these Foundations on the Right seem to be more able to get their message across than those who fund Bill Moyers..these days.

(81,220 posts)We need to go after their money. We need to go after their cloak of secrecy and privacy. We need to redefine what a "foundation" is - if its reason for being is funding political causes. They get tax exempt status for "foundations." We need to figure out how to head this off, undercut it, and permanently disable it.

(1,015 posts)In the early 1990s the foundation helped support The American Spectator, which at the time was researching damaging material on President Bill Clinton. The Bradley Foundation has provided funding for the Project for a New American Century (PNAC). PNAC brought together prominent members of the George H. W. Bush administration, including Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Richard Perle, and Paul Wolfowitz, in the late 1990s to articulate their neoconservative foreign policy, including sending a letter to President Bill Clinton urging him to invade Iraq.
