Former Port Authority exec files lawsuit to quash subpoena in GWB probe

Source: Bergen Record

David Wildstein, the executive at the center of the decision to close lanes at the entrance to the George Washington Bridge, filed a lawsuit in superior court today trying to quash the legislature’s subpoena of his testimony, according to a spokesperson for the court.

The lawsuit said the subpoena is invalid for a number of reasons. Wildstein’s lawyer, Alan Zegas, questioned the validity of Wisniewski’s signature on the subpeona.

The lawsuit also questioned Wisniewski’s ability to issue a subpoena for investigative purposes and said he had a conflict of interest in the case because as a lawyer, Wisniewski allegedly represented a firm with a financial stake in Port Authority business.

Wildstein has been subpoenaed to appear on Thursday before Assemblyman John Wisniewski, D-Middlesex, and the Assembly transportation committee to answer questions about the lane closures.

Coincidence? something smells

.....Today, The Record published emails and other correspondence between Wildstein and members of Christie’s staff, implicating them in the decision to close the bridge. Wisniewski has said previously he wanted to question Wildstein to explain some of those conversations.

The lawsuit came on a day when Governor Christie has been silent about allegations that top senior staff played a role in a possible political decision to close the lanes.

....this story has a life of it's own and keeps getting bigger by the minute.

It's just like any other scandal - bad enough as it is, the lies and cover-ups are even worse.

To borrow a phrase from one of the emails, "is it wrong that I am smiling?"

On another note, even the National Review - yes, the CONSERVATIVE National Review! - has come out with a scathing criticism of Christie!

It doesn't surprise me that Christie canceled today his one public event and is hiding his ugly mug.

call Kelly, then Wildstein, then christie and offer immunity from prosecution to the first one that comes forward and a promise to use the full weight of the law on the second place finisher.

My guess is Kelly will get there first because she has the most exposure. Wildstein may have did the deed; but it is clear that he did so on someone else's order ... the question is, "was it her order, Christie's order, or someone else's?"

he's worried. Zegas is one of the lawyers of choice in NJ for the high-profile guilty. He'll kick and scream for a while, but eventually Wildstein will either flip on his master or go down.
