Gates Says Biden, Clinton Would Make Good Presidents

Source: TPM

CAITLIN MACNEAL – JANUARY 12, 2014, 2:23 PM EST

Former Defense Secretary Bob Gates, who wrote critically about Vice President Joe Biden and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, on Sunday said both would make good presidents.

"Actually, yeah I think she would," Gates said in an interview with "CBS Sunday Morning" when asked if Hillary Clinton would make a good commander-in-chief. When asked about Biden, Gates also said he would also do well in the role. "I suppose to be even-handed I would have to say I suppose he would," he said.

Gates, who in his book said Biden was "wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue over the past four decades," conceded that he sometimes agreed with the Vice President. And Gates had additional praise for Clinton.

"The thing that I like best about Secretary Clinton, other than the fact that she has a great sense of humor, was she's very tough-minded," he said.

I agree, Hillary's very tough-minded. No one will ever deter her from pursuing what is best for Hillary Clinton.

He was behind, or supported, many bad foreign policy decisions over the decades. And after saying Biden was wrong for forty years (which isn't remotely true), Gates now says he'd make a good President? WTF?

to get attention.

unfortunately most of these books these days are about just making money and too tabloid like.

one could actually learn a lot from someone like him and have serious discussions on things he dealt with instead of all the gossip type crap the media loves to do these days.

not at all natural from what's actually IN the book, from what I understand from people who've read it and who know a thing or two. Publicity-hunters fomented the controversies in order to sell books.

If Hillary runs there's no reasonable Republican who can claim that she doesn't meet the requirements to be the CIC. Although they'll repeat the word "Benghazi" like a mantra.

... "Who the fuck cares what Gates thinks?" Gates has absolutely no credibility, and I was sorely disappointed when PO kept him on when he became President. Coming out with this book proves that he has no credibility. He's just another Cheney, criticizing the current office and cabinet of the President.

He said in his book that Biden had gotten almost every major foreign policy decision wrong, then turns around and says he'd be a good president. I just don't buy him taking a 180 on whether Biden is qualified. He discredits himself.

As for Clinton, our party shouldn't be listening to people like Gates who 1) is a Republican; 2) has said nasty petty things about the current administration.

And with Warren as VP, Biden would have total "assassination insurance" from
Corporate operatives/Elite skullduggery.

Biden is strong on foreign policy, and he could delegate certain powerful
domestic duties and oversights for Warren (like overseeing how well social programs are working,
pushing for and overseeing more infrastructure spending,
going after bad corporate behavior, making sure key regulatory agencies
are actually doing their jobs, etc etc).
