Bridge Scandal Has Little Impact On Chris Christie's National Ratings
Source: The Huffington Post 01/13/2014 7:03 pm EST
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) has seen little change in his national favorability ratings since emails were released last week showing that his staff had intentionally caused a massive traffic snarl in a New Jersey town as a form of political payback, according to a Huffington Post/YouGov poll. According to the new poll, 38 percent of Americans now have a favorable view of the New Jersey governor, while 34 percent have an unfavorable view. Another 28 percent said they aren't sure.
Those figures are virtually unchanged compared to other surveys conducted over the course of the last month. A YouGov/Economist poll conducted Jan. 4-6 found Christie's favorable rating at 41 percent, as did another YouGov/Economist poll conducted in late December. A mid-December YouGov/Economist poll, which specifically identified Christie in a list of potential Republican candidates for president, found his national favorable rating at 36 percent. Indeed, a Pew Research Center poll released earlier Monday found that 60 percent of Americans said their view of Christie was unchanged in the last few days. Sixteen percent said their opinion of Christie was less favorable, while 6 percent said it was more favorable. Even among those who were following the bridge scandal "very" or "somewhat" closely, 57 percent said their opinion was unchanged.
The HuffPost/YouGov and Pew surveys together show that many Americans have heard about the bridge scandal, but relatively few are following it closely. In the HuffPost/YouGov poll, 43 percent said they had heard a lot about "a controversy involving Chris Christie and traffic on a major bridge between New Jersey and New York," while 35 percent said they had heard a little and 23 percent said they had heard nothing at all. In the Pew survey, however, only 18 percent said they were following the story very closely, while another 21 percent were following it fairly closely, 19 percent were following it not too closely, and 41 percent weren't following it closely at all.
The HuffPost/YouGov poll also found a division over whether Christie was telling the truth when he denied knowing about his staff's involvement in causing the massive traffic jam. Twenty-six percent said he was telling the truth, 25 percent said he was lying, and 49 percent said they weren't sure

(11,495 posts)When all the facts come out, and we know if he was, or wasn't the one who gave the word to do it, those numbers will change if he is found to have been lying the whole time, which I believe he is. Also there is another investigation about his use of federal funds to get "free publicity" for his run for the WH in 2016.
Once people find out just how corrupt he really is, and I do believe that is going to happen, his numbers will drop. Of course there are always the brain dead republican base who will never see the truth, but the majority of Americans will.
It should have gone down from the jump. What we're seeing is people who are so partisan they don't care what he did, or tacitly approve.

(4,144 posts)Rachel Maddow finished last week with an average of 325K viewers in the 25-54 demo, making her MSNBC show #1 in the 9pm time slot, ahead of Foxs Megyn Kelly, who had 305K. Maddow was first in the demo and Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and MSNBC beat Fox News overall in the demo for prime time on Thursday and Friday, something that had not happened in more than a year.
The performance marked Maddows best ratings since the Boston Marathon bombing dominated cable news coverage. This week, it may have been Maddows comprehensive coverage of New Jersey Governor Chris Christies Bridgegate scandal that helped put her over the top. The host was one of the first to report on the potential scandal before it blew up into national news.
MSNBCs Chris Matthews also had a strong week, tying his competition on Fox, On The Record with Greta Van Susteren, in the demo with 241K viewers. Lawrence ODonnell beat Sean Hannity in the demo on both Wednesday and Thursday. And All In with Chris Hayes had its second-highest rated week ever with 261K in the demo.
MSNBC finished the week with an average 271K viewers in the demo during prime time, just 7% behind Foxs 319K. CNN continued to struggle during the second week of the new year, coming in third place across the board.

Chris Christie is the portrait of the "compassionate Republican" whose only passion is for himself.
This is a very bad sign for America. Chris Christie is an ugly egotist.
I was amused at a video showing Chris Christie blowing up in his usual horrifying way at a law student who had apparently asked a question of Christie in a rude way. Christie yelled at the young man saying that a judge would hold the young man in contempt and throw the young man out if he acted like that in a courtroom. My thought was that the judge would have found Christie in contempt and thrown him out of the courtroom for responding to the young man as Christie did.
Christie would be really bad news for America. We would end up hating each other and fighting amongst ourselves were he to rise to any position of leadership in the country. Christie is downright dangerous in my view. I have never seen a politician as rude and full of himself as is Christie. Horrors!
