Oregon GOP group defends gun raffle to honor Lincoln and MLK with inept slavery analogy

An Oregon Republican group that was criticized for raffling off an AR-15 rifle to “celebrate the legacy” of Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King, Jr. has issued an apology that many see as worse than the offense.

The Multnomah County Republican Party had planned on raffling off an AR-15 to “celebrate the legacy of two great Republicans who demonstrated leadership and courage that all of us still lean on today: Martin Luther King, Jr. and Abraham Lincoln.”

When it was pointed out that both figures were assassinated, and that the only Republican among them, Lincoln, led a party that was only nominally “Republican,” the group decided to issue a second statement.

In that statement, the group claimed that “in our enthusiasm for celebrating Martin Luther King and Abraham Lincoln and the U.S. Constitution, our Multnomah Republican Party issued a press release that was unfortunately easily misunderstood.”

The Republicans around here are so nuts, so racist, so crazy. I'm from CA where Republicans can occasionally dress like and pass for people, but the Republicans here are absolutely crazed. The Chairman of the State Party is Art 'radiation is good for you' Robinson. Let's review their leadership with a clip from Robinson's appearance on Rachel Maddow Show back in 2010....they made this guy chairman!

Clackamas County is just south and east of Multnomah County (urban Portland).

The Republican Party headquarters is in the Clackamas County seat, Oregon City, in a small office right next to a payday loan outfit with a huge sign reading "Cash For Gold!"

I shake my head every time I drive by.
