AP: U.N. withdraws invitation to Iran for Syria peace talks

The U.N. secretary-general withdrew an invitation to Iran for peace talks on Syria after objections from the United States and the Syrian political opposition.

Secretary of State John F. Kerry was lobbying United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to rescind the invitation that had been issued overnight.

i woke up to news that Iran will be there, and now to read that they won't. what a hard struggle.

even happening. Obviously as decisions are made from day to day, the rest of the world will not always agree with us.

In this case, I think the UN preferred to have all the stakeholders here -- and I suspect the reason they changed is because the rebels were fighting going to the conference already and this would have made them walk. I think the major powers want this resolved and the instability ended -- almost more than they want anything else in Syria. This had the potential for ending talks before they begin.

because cannibal terrorists and the nation that nominally support them complained, the UN told Iran to toss off?

And there are those that claim the UN is "unfair" to the US and some of its allies
