Russia slams European Union's 'promotion of sexual minorities'

Source: Times of India

BRUSSELS: An official Russian human rights report released on Thursday lashed out at European Union nations for their "aggressive promotion" of the rights of sexual minorities.

The 150-page report on the state of human rights across the EU criticised the rise of xenophobia, racism, violent nationalism and chauvinism — notably in eastern nations with Russian minorities — as well as anti-Semitism and neo-Nazism.

But it also claimed that EU nations, while championing human rights worldwide, saw as "one of their priorities, the dissemination of their neo-liberal values as a universal lifestyle" for the globe.

"This is particularly evident in their aggressive promotion of the sexual minorities' rights.

"Russian human rights." I wish to hell they'd shut up about Gays. I don't think it's too late to just call off our participation in the Olympics. Stick a sock in it, Putin. Dayam!

They'd say "Fine, we'll withdraw from your propaganda festival...the Winter Olympics."

If they did that, Putin would look like the ass he is.

and to drop out over that issue would be a bigger smack than over human rights (something Russia could give two flying fucks about.. whining about homosexuals while their country is RAVAGED by child abuse and prostitution.. not to mention neo-nazis on top of it all).

It has been suggested that we gays also focus on Africa and stop being so critical of Russia.

Basic "argument of omission" bullshit.

In a 3 reply thread that has sunk to obscurity and is hard to find, and you wrack your brain trying to remember keywords that a search will bring up. It's all intended to fuck with you and basically troll you. Basically having to prove a negative (which I think is possible; "well I didn't see you post about X&quot is hard.

The reason Russia gets so much exposure is that, in fact, the Russia apologists try to downplay it and make it some other thing, like, that very topic. Not being critical in other instances. They can't just assume our position is consistent and even if we did miss that Africa thread that sank before we even saw it that only got 5 replies we'd still condemn that crap.

Sorry, touchy issue with me because I find this 'debate' tactic common with climate change denialists and I spent years of my real life time cumulatively debating those people.

athletes? Well we started out with two, but the US Team removed them from competition on sight to 'avoid controversy'. Yes.
There was a strong movement before those Olympics calling for boycott, so the Committee sent their representative Mr Brundage to Berlin to investigate the state of Hitler's Germany. Brundage concluded that there was not any discrimination in Germany against anyone AND that the 'rumors' were part of a conspiracy to harm Hitler's reputation, a conspiracy between the press and.....wait for it...the Jews!
So yes, Jesse Owens also ran and they put those photos in school books, but they do not mention the rest of it. Then there was the Holocaust, WW2, you know the rest.

In any case, I don't trust Putin further than I could throw him. I think he's just another big organized crime leader AND a bigot. We wouldn't trust the Godfather of the Mafia in charge of the Olympics, so why trust Putin?

In what I mean by that they want to be a world power again. The problem is though when you do it with fear and intimidation it doesn't work. Yes they had a good run (Soviet Union) but they crumbled from within. Just as Putin's BIGOTED russia will.

sexual minority instead of a worse term? I had this quick thought that hey that's the nicest way Russia has referred to gays in years so maybe they're improving. Just like the Republicans here and the Taliban in the ME, a few centuries behind but they're moving forward. Russia's mentality about the LGBT community is now solidly in the 19th Century.
