Celia Israel wins House District 50 runoff

AUSTIN -- Democrat Celia Israel has been elected a Texas state representative for House District 50 in a special runoff election.

With all precincts reporting, Israel led Republican Mike VanDeWalle with 59.65 percent of the votes. VanDeWalle received 40.35 percent of the votes.

I wondered how that election would turn out since the polling locations at school buildings were closed due to the weather. It was great that they went to a vote at any open location policy to make up for the fact that so many locations were impacted.

This is a special election to fill in the position. Both candidates are going to run in the regular election but Ms. Israel will win again.
