Move afoot to form 'right-wing' pro-Israel lobby in US

Source: Jerusalem Post

Right-wing Jewish hawks in the United States are considering the formation of a new pro-Israel lobby that would directly compete with AIPAC and J Street.

The new organization, which has been tentatively called Z-Pac, would aim to dilute the influence of J Street, which is viewed as a lobby that is sympathetic with the left. Its goal would be to serve as a genuine, right-wing alternative that would solicit influence and donations in order to counter the US administration's attempts to pressure the Israeli government into accept Secretary of State John Kerry's peace proposals.

"J Street supports a state of all its citizens, and AIPAC supports a two-state solution," one Jewish activist involved in the venture said this week. "This has created a situation in which those of us who think that the establishment of a Palestinian state would be a disaster have no way to express this and there is no organization that will communicate our protestations to the administration in Washington."

In recent years, right-wing American Jews have become more convinced that J Street, the liberal-left lobby, has become increasingly influential on the Obama administration's policies in the Middle East, with nothing to counterbalance its power. AIPAC, meanwhile, is considered an organization that will carry out its orders from the Israeli government irrespective of the US administration, while assuming an objective stance from an official standpoint.

They can't screw things up enough keeping their Netanyahu right wing over there, so they're going to bring it here.

They just keep on making friends.

Can anybody identify a pro-Israel lobby that isn't already ultra right-wing? One that isn't continually pushing us to join them in igniting the fires that will send all of the Middle East up in flames?

And there are people who think AIPAC isn't right wing enough?

Good luck managing your teabaggers, AIPAC. Maybe you can hire Karl Rove. I hear he has teabagger management down to a science.

it has the effect of driving attitudes farther to the extreme right. Which is the underlying goal.

This is good news. If the crazies abandon AIPAC, then AIPAC doesn't have to listen to the crazier anymore.

They don't have to listen to the crazies, they are already an altogether hardline foreign lobby that gets almost everything Israel demands, and sometimes pushes Israeli politics to the right.

This is just some of the crazies doing that thing where they pretend that they're besieged and they need another even crazier version of the crazy. Look up the Overton Window.

Not in their own state (the 2 state solution favoured by AIPAC), nor in a single state. These people are actively pushing for the true apartheid solution?

ie removing citizenship (in terms of, say, voting rights) from anyone 'Palestinian'. At least Arabs in Israel proper get a vote at the moment; I get the feeling these guys want Israel to take over all of the West Bank and remove rights from all Arabs, because they want neither any 2 state solution, nor a 1 state solution with all adults with a vote.

OTOH, if they haven't learned their lesson already with building astroturf out of extreme, irrational, uncontrollable 'useful idiots,' I suspect they're about to.

Fracturing their own base into ever-smaller and more extreme, narrowly-focused fragments is not a winning long-term solution.

But it's likely to be a helluva ride on the way there.

trepidatiously,
Bright

This just messes with my mind. In my stereotypical world view, my idea is that the Jewish people are intellectuals with leftwing ideation embracing liberal views. I hope there are still some of my imaginary friends left on the planet.

Can I reconcile my fantasy with the new reality of Militant Zionism?

Seriously, when it comes to lobby organizations, "Pro-Israel" and "Right-Wing" are already inseparable. Even J-Street is, at best, centrist to center-right (putting it in line with the average democratic politician, but still far from "left&quot
