Russia test-fires ICBM amid tension over Ukraine

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia said it had successfully test-fired an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) on Tuesday, with tensions high over its seizure of control in the Crimea and its threat to send more forces to its neighbour Ukraine.

The Strategic Rocket Forces launched an RS-12M Topol missile from the southerly Astrakhan region near the Caspian Sea and the dummy warhead hit its target at a proving ground in Kazakhstan, the state-run news agency RIA cited Defence Ministry spokesman Igor Yegorov as saying.

Ever since Nixon, the USA and first the Soviets, and since then, the Russians, have shared the exact time and place of any test. Just to prevent any misunderstanding, and therefore, a nuclear mistake.

Now, if the US military suddenly increased its level of readiness, and you heard Kerry and Obama bitching about the test, different story. But that is not the case here.

There is one faction in the group who would fall under the category of being extreme right fascists, and from what I've seen they don't hold the power right now. We had a DUer here say they had to avoid a gang of 150 club-wielding folk in Kiev, (and that was before the latest party ramped up in other cities) and unless one thinks that all this was filmed where they faked the moon landings, I think the several channels that showed what info was available showed pretty clear street fighting, people shooting back at police with guns, and the flags of the neo-nazi-related folks fairly clearly.

They are smaller in number, but even here we are told that we cannot put Democratic programs through because of a minority, and that Ukrainian minority had guns and were openly using them, so to minimize it as "a minority" looks at their effect incorrectly. There are police and others in body bags right now because of them. Who started it? Don't know, but our Asst Sec of State stood up and proudly declared to business interests that we have spent $5 billion dollars in pushing these groups opposed to him to get rid of him. And this part of these groups started taking over public buildings and hurting people.

At the same time we are cutting $90 a month in food stamps from 850,000 hungry American people over the course of the next 10 years. That's $8 billion dollars. I can think of better places we can spend our money than interfering in other countries while American kids look at empty plates.

I think as of today you are becoming more correct about who is sort of holding power, in a country now occupied by a foreign government, but it was weapon carrying thugs that ran the elected president out of the country. As much as anyone dislikes it, it is too ironic for the U.S., a country which has the Supreme Court select its President (and no one stood up to that), to facilitate and approve of, against what the international community has said about the Ukrainian election being nearly as fair an election as any in the world, thugs deposing an elected leader. Even through our incompetence. It was foolhardy.

And welcomes Russia to do exactly what they did.

I think we should try a little respect for a change. I don't hear much.
