Mitch McConnell Brings a Gun to CPAC

Source: National Journal

[IMG][/IMG]

Mitch McConnell strode out onto the stage at the Conservative Political Action Conference on Thursday morning, packing heat.

The Senate Minority Leader finds himself in an odd position at CPAC. For one, he's the Republican leader in the Senate and stands to take over as the majority leader next year if some of the audience's favored candidates win control of blue seats in November.

But McConnell is also a five-term senator whose career has largely been characterized by the kind of earmarking that conservatives did away with following the tea-party wave of 2010. And he's facing a challenge from a tea party acolyte, albeit an underfunded one, in his home state of Kentucky this year.

It's almost no wonder that McConnell walked onto the stage this morning with a rifle in hand, which he quickly passed to Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, a hero among fiscal hawks. That moment marked the only time that the audience cheered loudly during McConnell's five minutes on stage.

The District of Columbia prohibits carrying firearms, openly or concealed. (DC Code Ann. § 22-4504(a).)

Please arrest Mr. McConnell

To be sure he came close to being arrested. Now Mitch no they won't blink an eye. However unlike the media elected officials must really follow the law. or they could be impeached. Hence why Issa almost got whipped for his illegal action yesterday course the GOP was having none of it.

For what it's worth, Bon Jovi's “Livin' on a Prayer” played as the court jester came on stage waving the rifle.

An interesting and appropriate choice, given the Repub party of today. They should adopt it as their official theme song.

Firearms laws don't apply to them, the same as they don't typically apply to paintball or BB guns.

They're exempt from background checks and can actually be mailed the the postal service, so I doubt he was in violation of DC law.

Anybody over the age of 21 can walk into Cabela's and purchase a fully operational replica, no questions asked. If you're really good, you might be able to fire a shot every 45 seconds or so.

So I'm not sure what point he is trying to make by brandishing a perfectly legal firearm in front of an audience of paranoid yahoos. I doubt that anyone even among the nuttiest of anti gun nuts is proposing to make these guns illegal.

Of course I doubt if McConnell even knows that. And probably 90% of his idiot audience has never fired a gun either.

do best: pretend to be "patriots" by threatening violence against other Americans while denying them the most basic of human rights and dignity. They wrap themselves in the flag, and hide behind their perverted interpretation of the Second Amendment.

McConnell and Coburn are representative of the bought-and-paid-for corrupt politicians which have been hand-picked by the NRA/ALEC/Koch Brothers/Fox News/Tea Party right-wing, anti-American, political machine.
