Senate Ukraine Draft Measure Said to Include IMF Change

Source: Bloomberg

By Kathleen Hunter 2014-03-10T16:04:11Z

Senate Democrats may boost International Monetary Fund resources in an aid package they’re preparing for Ukraine, potentially setting up a dispute with the U.S. House.

The IMF assistance, requested by President Barack Obama and the Treasury Department, is included in a draft version of Ukraine aid legislation, said a congressional aide who spoke on condition of anonymity because the measure isn’t yet public.

Senate Foreign Relations Chairman Robert Menendez, a New Jersey Democrat, is crafting the measure with the panel’s top Republican, Bob Corker of Tennessee, to rebuke Russia for its incursion into Ukraine and to assist the Ukrainian government. The committee is scheduled to vote on the measure tomorrow.

...

The U.S. is delaying implementation of a 2010 agreement by all IMF member countries to double the fund’s lending capacity to about $733 billion. The plan would give emerging markets such as China more clout at the institution, which was set up at the end of World War II to help ensure the stability of the global monetary system.

these same asshats have no problem chipping away at our services, but damn if they don't mind throwing our tax payer money for these inane "democracy projects" (read neo-con enterprises).

it should rightfully outrage everyone here, even those who oppose annexation. It's like funding these "democracy projects" in Iraq and Afghanistan. A complete waste!

Snowden said today that this data mining scheme didn't work. I could have told them that, it's not that easy.

but we're not a real democracy and we don't have a say in where and how our taxes should be spent outside of our borders.

And much of the trouble we have now stems from that corruption and misgovernance. It is not the first time either.

What's Dick Cheney's Advisor Vicky Nuland doing in the State Department? What's McCain doing meeting with 'rebels' in places like Libya, Syria and Ukraine promising them US help that and then we deliver?

What's all that about? Disgusting.

16. Remember Leon Panetta? : "We've Lost Crimea"

Opening remarks at the Panetta Institute in Santa Barbara.. it was televised tonight on KQED (local PBS station) It's sort of akin to the Council of Foreign Affairs, certainly the same milieu of Neo-Lib, Neo-Con imperialists and war hawk strategists circle jerking and deciding together which country we need to do regime change with.

The topic was supposed to be 'lessons learned' from WWI since it's the 100th year anniversary.. But the real lesson for me was how deeply Imperialism and American Exceptional-ism is ingrained in the DNA/mindset with these actors who have their hands on the levers of the war machines.

"We've Lost Crimea" ... that's a direct quote, and it goes down from there. It happens there's another broadcast of this talk which has to be seen and heard to get the full breadth and scope of how the panel sees what needs to be done now in the region. It's beyond disgusting, it's actually frightening.
