'No immediate danger to public' after Colerain oil leak (note: Cincinnati, Ohio Area)

Source: Cincinnati Enquirer Digital

A large leak was reported overnight in a crude oil pipeline that runs through Glen Oak Nature Preserve in Colerain Township, fire officials said this morning.

It's not clear yet how big the leak is, but it is contained, said Capt. Steve Conn, spokesman for Colerain Township Fire Department.

[snip]

Mid-Valley Pipeline Co. owns the line and it is operated by Sunoco Logistics out of Sugarland, Texas, Conn and EPA officials said. The 20-inch diameter line stretches 1,000 miles from Texas to Michigan.

Conn said crews will pump out the wetlands. Officials do not think the oil leached into the groundwater or reached the Great Miami River.

Nothing like the Arkansas spill but another harbinger of bad thing that happen around these pipelines. This is the third meaningful leak in the last 9 years.

This is near Miamitown or Ross, true Republican land. Once the snow fully melts, it'll make it's way to the river. The locals won't mind. They're used to dust from Fernald, which made nuke components during the 1950's and 60's. Lots of cancers, but "it be bidness 'n s**t", according to residents. Not saying these people deserve it - many of them are good folks - but, they'll roll over in a heartbeat for certain things like today's Republicans are so inclined to do.

What a shocker. Since the Kasich administration never misses a chance to help out their friends in the Oil and Gas Industries, you can bet there has been no inspection of this pipeline in recent memory. Leaking in a wildlife refuge, what a freaking mess.

IT's bullshit. Their carelessness needs to be answered for.

Getting pretty sick of them paying paltry fines and doing whatever the hell they want.

that every time this happens, the Companies pay a minimal fine then wait one to two years and go back to "harvest" their intended prize.
One of the reasons that this may be happening in pristine or precious eco-systems is that they hold the largest bounty for these Companies.

Now consider just how many leaks there are along this incredibly long pipeline and how many leaks are probably going unreported.
