Weather service: Sunday's tornado in central Arkansas rated as EF4
Source: Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
The twister that tore through central Arkansas on Sunday evening, killing 15 people and leaving more than 3,000 homes in three counties uninhabitable, has been rated as a "high-end" EF4, National Weather Service officials said Wednesday.
The weather service on Wednesday afternoon released data about Sunday's violent storms in a news conference at its headquarters in North Little Rock.
The winds of the tornado that tracked about 41 miles from western Pulaski County to western White County were recorded as being between 166 and 200 mph, weather service officials said.
The storm system also spawned some weaker tornadoes rated between EF1 and EF3 along its path elsewhere in the state.

I was about 10 miles out of this tornado's path. Given how wide of a tornado it was, 10 miles still feels too close.

(3,818 posts)Be funny if y'all are related through marriage. The sirens when off here in West WLR when it went through Ferndale.
So glad y'all are safe. Seeing reports of Center Hill being hit and being left out of the volunteer brigade and help up there.

(15,703 posts)Went I first moved up here in '93 a tornado came over but pretty high. I guess it is hard for them to drop down after going over the mountain. I just hope they keep doing that.
