Democrat Loses Committee Spots After Tax Cut Vote

Source: KOMU

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - A Democratic lawmaker from suburban St. Louis has been removed from several Missouri House committees after he sided with Republicans to enact an income tax cut.

Rep. Keith English was removed from four House committees Wednesday by House Minority Leader Jake Hummel.

English provided the deciding vote Tuesday for the Republican-led House to achieve the two-thirds majority needed to override Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon's veto of the tax cut legislation.

The measure will gradually cut Missouri's top individual income tax rate and phase in a special deduction for business income starting in 2017, so long as state revenues keep rising. All of the other Democratic lawmakers voted against the tax cut.

He got to choose which one to keep. He chose National Security/

He kept his National Security chair until he left the Senate.

Think about that.

6. So could someone please explain though why the cut is a bad one if as the article says

that the cut will gradually increase only as long as the states revenue rise? I assume the article left something out which is why most of you are opposed to the cut.

7. Only if someone explains to me why the uber rich need more tax give aways????

Since it only cuts the uber rich's taxes (someone making $30,000 a year still has to pay 5.25%) , why do the rich who are getting everything handed to them from subsidies on their $5 million ranches to absolutely no taxes on their stocks and bonds need a tax cut? (Name me one thing the poor buy that is not taxed.)

And Missouri is cutting education and road repair in order to balance their budget. They are in full austerity mode but are going for a tax cut for the richest 1%? They don't even tax the huge inheritances being passed around to the already excessively rich. It's like Maryland giving out tax cuts to the 1% while you can watch their collapsing roads on you tube.

The rich are choking the life out of our country.

not the 99%. It seems pretty cut and dry in it's coddling of the rich. Small example from my area. A new transit tax was voted on to increase routes into areas of low and middle income people. In my neighborhood the yard signs were a majority in favor. In my friends affluent neighborhood the signs were against the transit tax claiming that they are already paying too much in taxes. They have some of the lowest tax rates.

10. Don't forget, they also get to defund more school systems..

A$$croft, when he was in state gov't, set us up for this. When the lottery was voted in here, it only passed because those monies were promised to the schools. What wasn't announced was that an equal amount of money was then taken away from the general fund. So, no MORE money, just from a different 'account'. Now, with lottery sales shrinking(no jobs, no money from the little people), the schools are in a bad situation and the pubs in state are not willing to help. Nixon has his hands tied, and this 'union' asshole sides against him.

He needs to go.
