One U.S.-Backed Rebel Group Cooperates With Al-Qaeda in Syria

ISTANBULA U.S.-backed opposition faction is cooperating with an al Qaeda-linked rebel group to battle the Syrian regime as the opposition chief prepares to meet with officials in Washington to lobby for weapons, in part to fight al Qaeda.
...over the past few weeks in Quneitra, the Syrian Revolutionaries Front increased their coordination with al Qaeda's largest faction in Syria, the Nusra Front, according to Abu Omar Golani, a media coordinator embedded with the Syrian Revolutionaries Front in Quneitra province,
"The FSA and Nusra Front are closely cooperating on the front line," Mr. Golani said Wednesday, adding that the FSA had tried for a year to liberate the hills with no success until Nusra joined the fight. They are coordinating on the battlefield and in five joint "military operations rooms" where they plan strategy before key battles and coordinate among different fighting units, Mr. Golani added.
"The strategic importance of the hills is that they overlook the roads leading to Deraa," he said, referring to southern Deraa province bordering Jordan, where rebels are gaining.
