Support in U.S. for Afghan War Drops Sharply, Poll Finds
Source: The New York Times
After a series of violent episodes and setbacks, support for the war in Afghanistan has dropped sharply among both Republicans and Democrats, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll.
The survey found that more than two-thirds of those polled 69 percent thought that the United States should not be at war in Afghanistan. Just four months ago, 53 percent said that Americans should no longer be fighting in the conflict, more than a decade old.
The increased disillusionment was even more pronounced when respondents were asked their impressions of how the war was going. The poll found that 68 percent thought the fighting was going somewhat badly or very badly, compared with 42 percent who had those impressions in November.
The latest poll was conducted by telephone from March 21 to 25 with 986 adults nationwide. It has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus three percentage points.

(34,582 posts)republicans are finally against it- only, of course, because the CIC is a democrat. Where were they 10 years ago? Hell, even 5 years ago?

(39,909 posts)...for most of America to realize this was a bloody, worthless, military adventure.
International Law Enforcement was the correct way to deal with a handful of Saudi thugs paying rent to some Tribal War Lord to hide out in his desert.
Obama proved that nothing more than Seal Team 6 was required to handle Osama.
Bill Clinton managed to find, capture, try, convict, and imprioson all of the terrorists who bombed the WTC in the early 90s,
and he did so without:
*Invading & Occupying any country
*Jeopardizing the life of a single American
*killing a single innocent civilian
*Spending a Trillion Dollars
*Shredding the Constitution
*Declaring WAR on a concept (Terror)
*Decimating our Military
*Sending our National Guard to a foreign country
The ONLY things we should have dropped on Adfghanistan were:
*Satellite TVs
*Desalination Plants
*Dollar Bills
*BigMACS
It would have been FAR cheaper,
and much more effective.
You will know them by their WORKS,
not by their excuses.

(4,310 posts)please take this opportunity to end this worthless bloody war once and for all.
Waiting until the violence escalates, which will happen, will make leaving more
difficult due to increased criticism from those that have everything to gain in keep
-ing this never ending war machine churning out their hardware, mercenaries and
corporations satisfying shareholders. There is nothing that even vaguely resembles
winning in the cards. At least you will be remembered in history for cutting our losses
at the best possible time given the constraints of your presidency.
