Twin Cities jobless rate -- at 4% -- is the lowest in U.S.

Source: StarTribune

The Twin Cities boasts the best unemployment rate of any large metropolitan area in the United States as a wave of recent hiring boost the local economy.

Job growth across a mix of industries in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area lowered the jobless rate to 4.0 percent in May, edging out Austin, Texas, and Columbus, Ohio, for the nation’s lowest rate, the U.S. Department of Labor reported Tuesday.

“Number one, the health care economy never slacked off during the recession and then has continued to boom,” said Louis Johnston, an economist at the College of St. Benedict and St. John’s University. “We have a big footprint in health care, both with medical devices and indirectly with UnitedHealth.”

Rounding out the five major metro areas with the lowest unemployment rates are Austin with a 4.1 percent rate; Columbus and Oklahoma City tied at 4.4 percent, and Boston with an unemployment rate of 4.7 percent.

Notice something interesting? Minneapolis St. Paul and, I think, Boston, are considered high tax cities. So much for "lower taxes create jobs" nonsense.

I grew up south of there, but in the upper midwest still, and no way am I going back to those winters - snowballs have a better chance of surviving hell, lol.

and the Northeast were getting more snow than the Twin Cities. I think that Chicago got more.

At least Minnesota does not have all those tornadoes that hit Kansas and Indiana and even the south; does not have hurricanes and not earthquakes. I've lived in all of these areas.

The main problem are mosquitoes and, this summer, we are warned about black flies ugh...

ah, I miss the twin cities so much. Fun stuff to do, fun people, lots of good jobs, and I love the cold! (seriously)

Good for Minnesota! Uff Da!

Of course GOP can never explain the thriving economies of the most liberal places in America. They will obsessively talk about rust belt cities like Detroit non-stop as if the twin cities, silicon valley, seattle, boston, and other liberal strongholds just didn't exist.

did really run a pro DFL story. Damn, the sky is falling. Might be the last positive DFL thread out of that crowd.

DFL=Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party was a member for 43 years. We never gave up the fight. Hated to leave, but, the arthritis got the best of us and had to go to a dry climate or eat pain killers and that isn't a great alternative.

You get what you pay for and the standard of living in Minny is the best.

and this was a news item, though on line one had to look for it.

Whether there will be an editorial about that is a different story.

as my brother and his family live there. The infrastructure is fantastic, and you can really see all of the benefits that the taxes produce all over the area (parks, public transportation, roads, etc.).

but our public transportation sucks. And the infrastructure - like everywhere else in the U.S. - is in dire need of repair.

But you're right about the parks.

and we're not getting any resumes to speak of.

If anyone here knows SQL well (preferably PL/SQL but that's not mandatory) and Crystal reports, PM me.
