Hurricane Arthur nears landfall on N.C. coast

Source: Charlotte Observer

A strengthening Hurricane Arthur roared toward an expected landfall Thursday night on the North Carolina coast, bringing the threat of 110 mph winds to beach resorts on the busiest tourist weekend of the year.

Defying earlier computer model predictions that Arthur would skirt the Outer Banks and keep its strongest winds offshore, the storm plowed Thursday toward the shore and appeared likely to make landfall between Camp Lejeune and Cape Lookout along the southern Outer Banks.

Authorities rushed ahead with evacuation efforts earlier Thursday from Ocracoke Island, near Cape Lookout, and farther north on Hatteras Island.

Vacationers in more heavily populated areas near Wilmington and Myrtle Beach stayed put, for the most part, putting up with frequent thunderstorms, occasional tornado warnings, heavy rain, and winds that gusted to 50 mph at times.

Will do. If we get any major sound side flooding it will probably be in the morning, after the wind switches.
