No job loss in most states that raised minimum wage
Source: Fiscal Times via Yahoo News
The really interesting finding is that the states that raised the minimum wage saw job growth that was, on average, higher than states that did not. The 37 states that did not raise the minimum wage at the beginning of this year saw employment increase by .68 percent. Those that did raise the wage saw employment increase by .99 percent.

There has been such great stagnation on wages over the last 20 years ... Every step is important, but there is a LOT of ground that needs to be made up.

(22,875 posts)apparently for the general media to do more than a cursory report of it. Of course right wing dedicated media is never going to report it.

(55,981 posts)For example Washington was listed as one of the states that raised the minimum wage. I think that was only in the Seattle area and that really doesnt get fully implemented for many years. Therefore, couldn't have effected the job market.
If anyone has better data, please share.

(14,755 posts)It really does make sense if you think about how raising minimum wage is a stimulus for an entire economy.

But as I have stated the raise in min wage in Washington, as far as I know, is only recently in Seattle and wont be fully implemented for many years to come. Therefore, I would like to see where the data came from showing the gains. It's not that I dispute the claim but would love to use the data.
I strongly support increasing the min. wage. Sorry, I should have said that earlier.

(14,755 posts)I'm not sure why you keep focusing on Seattle.
Glad you support it. It makes sense and any study that shows that it improves the economy should not be a surprise.

(55,981 posts)to have actually data. If someone else has done the research, I want to use it. I am familiar with Seattle and doubt that any conclusion can be made about a min wage increase in Washington as I believe the article mentioned.

(6,278 posts)Washington state is listed because the state minimum wage is indexed to inflation, leading to a hike, not because of Seattle.

(482 posts)More like expected finding. We now know how destructive trickle down economics is. It's about time we went back to doing the things that work for making an economy grow such as providing a living wage. Capitol flows up not down.
