Obama signs intelligence bill into law

Source: ASSOCIATED PRESS

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama has signed into law legislation that authorizes spending of $564 million over five years for the U.S. intelligence community and expands protections for intelligence agency whistleblowers against retaliation.

The White House said Obama signed the bill Monday. The cost figure does not include classified programs.

The bipartisan legislation specifies that employees would be protected when they make disclosures about potential wrongdoing within their agencies, to internal watchdogs or to Congress’ intelligence committees. The legislation adopts and expands whistleblower protection proposals made by Obama in 2012.

The legislation would encourage whistleblowers to voice concerns through channels rather than through unauthorized and potentially damaging leaks, supporters said. The new law, however, does not provide protections to intelligence agency contractors, such as National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden.

A hopeful sounding headline followed by a bunch of conditional statements that, in effect, nullify the whole thing. Do they think people won't read past the headline?

Yeah, right...if Snowden had elected to "voice concerns through channels" that would have solved the whole problem, right?? <Wait, I have some swamp land in Arizona...>

Or maybe he could have approached Keith <aka Cmdr. Kirk>, Alexander. He would have been disappeared. Or, perhaps, he would have decided to drive his car down the road at 90mph and cause it to explode upon impact with a tree. Yeah, that's the ticket. Case closed.

OTOH, I see this doesn't apply to intelligence agency contractors. Well, all right, then. Done deal!

I am offended that Obama must think NO ONE in the US can parse a sentence.

One must find some humor, somewhere, I suppose; so here's an homage to Keith Alexander. What a loon!

...is all the rationalists, the logicians and the so-called ''adults'' who tell us that we must wake-up and make REAL-WORLD decisions -- are the ones who are so easily and constantly duped by the same people using the same lines and tactics.

- Did I say amusing? I meant dismayed.

Member of Congress only understand one type of intelligence test, who has the money. Scientists and the Clergy do not. Corporate America does. Don't look at who Congress is saying they are listening it, follow the money and you will find out it is Corporate America who then looks for any Scientists and Clergymen and women who support what they want. I have read many a statement from the Clergy on Global Warming and evolution that Corporate America ignores for it is NOT want Corporate America wants to hear. The Clergy you hear of tend to be corporate month pieces and that is why you hear about them.
