Man behind 'Obama Presidential Library' float says mannequin wasn't depicting president

NORFOLK, Neb. — A mannequin paired with an outhouse on a controversial float in Norfolk’s Fourth of July parade was not intended to be a depiction of President Barack Obama, according to the man who created the display.

The float included a cartoonish figure in overalls with a walker standing near an outhouse labeled the “Obama Presidential Library.” Once a photo of the float was posted on the Internet, it created a firestorm on social media.

Dale Remmich of rural Norfolk said Monday he is a military veteran who created the float to show his displeasure over the president’s handling of the Veterans Affairs Department.

“The float was political satire and an expression of political disgust,” he said. “There was no racism involved, no hate for anyone.”

It seems strangely disingenuous to try and argue now that the mannequin on the float is not representing Obama when his name is on the float. Why send the message if he's not going to stand behind it? Floats mockingly depicting presidents are nothing new, and this ones design is frankly mediocre. But now the man behind it is throwing more shade on himself than anyone else, and he appears stupid beyond whatever message he was trying to send.
