Ohio GOP sues Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald

Source: Cleveland Plain Dealer

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Ohio Republican Party filed a lawsuit today to try to force Cuyahoga County Executive and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Ed FitzGerald to release information detailing his use of the county parking garage.

The GOP has been criticizing FitzGerald for weeks for refusing to release key-card information detailing his county parking garage habits. The information was first requested in April by the Northeast Ohio Media Group to better understand how he balances time in the office with campaigning. FitzGerald has refused the request, saying the release of the information poses a security risk to him.

The GOP submitted a similar records request. The lawsuit was filed before the Ohio Supreme Court. It argues that FitzGerald violated Ohio's open records law by failing to respond to the party's request.

The party threatened last month to sue the county for the information. It is also seeking the key-card data from several other employees, including Clerk of Courts Andrea Rocco. FitzGerald's administration has not explained why it has not handed over information on other employees. Lauren Hitt, the press secretary for FitzGerald's gubernatorial campaign, said the request for other employees' records has not been denied. She said the records are still being reviewed.

Where are they? Oh... but... but... but... WE have to be NIIIIIIIIIICE.

Where are OUR operatives, keeping the bad guys busy fighting lots of attacks and challenges? Notice how they're ALWAYS hitting us? ALWAYS going on offense, ALWAYS on the attack, ALWAYS picking a fight, ALWAYS making loud accusations that then catch fire and the bad guys make hay out of that, too. Can NO ONE on our side take a page from that and start going on offense, against the bad guys? Can't we return the favor? Sheesh - I keep thinking back, almost nonstop, to the sensei at the neighborhood karate school. He taught some of the sparring classes and he was really good, and really shrewd. Tremendous instinctive understanding of the human condition and the human psyche, motivations, reactions, and responses to various things. Literally as well as figuratively - this was sparring class, after all. And he'd say - "keep 'em busy. Keep 'em busy. Jab. Keep jabbing. Don't stop jabbing. Jab. Keep 'em busy. Keep it coming. Keep 'em busy..." Keep 'em busy. Depletes their energy, keeps their focus scattered, disorganized, easier for somebody to drop the ball or take their eyes off said ball, or miss something. Or lose track. Or get otherwise distracted. Or tired out.

Reading the news and scanning through many of these threads, I feel sometimes as though we're under siege from every direction imaginable. At all times. Somewhere, somewhen, somehow, someone from that side is either cheating, stealing, undermining, yowling, throwing a hissy-fit, spreading a rumor, passing a note, buying a vote, digging up dirt, filing some nuisance lawsuit, or some sort of on-offense action against us. Maybe it's just me, but that's how it seems. We are up against it from the Supreme Court to the farthest reaches of the states. We are up against it seemingly from every corporation one can think of. Government officials and "civilian" operatives alike. Phony "news" purveyors and pseudo-experts galore. Dirty tricksters, too. There's always something. VERY frustrating.

Just in the past few months, the news media flamed the Veteran's Affair story; the right's insane response to Bergdahl's release; this week it's the growing immigration issue. Before that it was Russia, North Korea, Iraq, Iran, Benghazi, IRS, Syria, Healthcare, women's health. Notice there is never a burning desire to resolve the expired unemployment benefits issue, education, housing, gun control, infrastruction or the multitude of national issues facing millions of Americans. You are not alone and I have been having this dreadful feeling for awhile.

Glad you're here! I think there are oodles of us, even just here, who have been having this dreadful feeling for awhile. But we can't let it discourage us or slow us down. And for HEAVEN'S sake, do NOT let it keep you from voting in November! Weigh in on EVERYTHING. Look stuff up . Local or national organizations and Democratic clubs will have lists of endorsements you can read over to help you decide what and whom to vote for, if nothing else - check out who's endorsing it/him/her. Sometimes all you need to see is - "hmmm... there's this whole stack of names of distinguished local/regional/national republi-CONS on this one side, or endorsing this one candidate..." and something like that is hugely instructive all by itself. "By thy friends art thou known" and all that.

With politicians especially - and not just when you're voting for them - you've ALWAYS gotta know who they hang with. Who's advising them. Who's handling their debate coaching. Who's writing their speeches? Who's bundling their donations? Notice, if you will, how any major-league GOP presidential wannabe will very likely have American Enterprise Institute (and spin-off outfits') figures and fellows, or PNAC signatories, or "American Exceptionalism" proponents advising them on foreign policy and economics and tax policy. All those political backstage boys and girls are gentlemen and ladies in waiting for Cabinet appointments and other high-level positions in the presumed new administration. They're lining up for future things like planes you can see for miles off in the distance - and they're all lined up on the big glide path descending into LAX on a busy night.

It can all be summed up much more neatly: Stay Alert. And Get Out the Vote!

Thank you for the welcome but no worries; I canvass, phone-bank, attend Democratic committee meeting. Sometimes just need to back off to regain my sanity. I have been coming to this site often but never posted. Your post summed up my current mental state and begged my response.

Good to have you with us! I don't know. I wonder the same thing about Wisconsin and Kansas. It just doesn't compute how people can vote for this stuff. Unfortunately, it isn't only the politicians we have to work in spite of, but it's also the ding-dongs out there who vote for these assholes - who think the darrell issas and louie gohmerts and ding-dongs like this:
Rep. Trey Gowdy (SC 4)
"Global warming has not been proven to the satisfaction of the constituents I seek to serve."

I am so tired of these Republicans trying to do anything in their power to discredit and disenfranchize Democrats statewide from voters to our Democratic candidates The Ohio GOP lead by Kasich know that a storm is coming this November and Kasich cannot run his campaign on how many jobs he's created, he cannot run his campaign on how well the state is doing, so instead he and the Ohio Republicans will do everything between now and November to tear Ed Fitzgerald down, instead of running on his record...

They're suing because they weren't given the parking records? I thought I was in GD at first and had to check to make sure it wasn't an Onion article.

Kasich's pet project, Jobs Ohio, is an organization purportedly to bring business to Ohio, but in reality provides money to his cronies and contributors. (read White Hat charter schools) Jobs Ohio is exempt from the blue sky laws in Ohio. When he wants to keep a secret, he just exempts the appropriate board from the law. He also signed the first law in the United States to limit alternate energy funding. No wonder Ohio is one of the most miserable states in which to live.
