Venezuela opposition leaders call for U.S. sanctions amid simmering political, economic crises

Source: Miami Herald

The United States has a moral “obligation” to impose sanctions against Venezuelan leaders accused of violating human rights and other crimes, opposition figures said Friday.

During a forum in Doral about the future of the South American nation hosted by e l Nuevo Herald and the Association of Venezuelan Journalists Abroad, government critics said a sanctions bill that passed the House in May is necessary to ratchet up pressure against the Nicolás Maduro administration that is straining beneath one of the worst political and economic crises in decades.

“The United States, which has been a promoter of international conventions,” against financial crimes and human rights violations “has the obligation to be coherent and defend them,” said Beatrice Rangel, a former cabinet minister during the Carlos Andrés Pérez administration and the executive director of AMLA consulting.

Horacio Medina, the head of the Miami branch of the opposition coalition known as the MUD, went further, saying the U.S. government hasn’t had a coherent policy toward Latin America since the Alliance for Progress under the John F. Kennedy administration.

This is about distorting reality so the U.S. can get its hands on Venezuela's oil, unimpeded. Instead of backing a coup like the U.S. did in 2002, we're now just stirring up shit indirectly, which pretty well describes most of U.S. foreign policy of the last 70+ years or more.

So they sat one out, and then they screeched Hugo Chavez had cheated to win, had stolen votes, etc.

They are typically racist, classist, loathsome, useless, hate-filled, parasitic oligarchs.

I guess they're frustrated no coup is forthcoming. They'll just have to buck up and actually live with the rest of the citizenry. Pobrecitos.

Chile and the US chosen Pinochet come to mind. A mass murderer elevated to a dictator all because a South American country dare elect a socialist leader. That will teach them.

And the US certainly shortened Castro's 49 year reign.

So, getting the US to increase the attack funding and destabilization support against the 2nd elected Socialist leader of Venezuela may not be the solution the uber rich 1% of Venezuela think it is.
