CEO Whitman takes chairman post at Hewlett-Packard

Source: AP-Excite

PALO ALTO, Calif. (AP) — Hewlett-Packard CEO Meg Whitman is assuming the title of chairman after the departure of interim chairman, Ralph Whitworth, who resigned to deal with health issues.

HP has split the roles of chairman and CEO since Mark Hurd resigned as CEO in 2010. The company has faced shareholder displeasure over a series of missteps and slumping sales. Whitworth, an activist shareholder, was named to the company's board to placate investors.

Whitworth announced his resignation on Tuesday.

Whitman has been CEO since 2011. She took over from Leo Apotheker, who was CEO for less than a year before being forced out.

I lived and worked in Silicon Valley for a few decades and still have a lot of friends there. She is known as a major asshole there and no one likes working with her.

I'd like to think that Queen Meg never really had a chance to win the 2010 CA governor's race. Still the voters of CA did elect St. Ronnie as governor and even Schwarzenegger

She would be governor and running right now for re-election. Instead Jerry Brown has turned us around. Not perfect, but a heck of a lot better than Queen Meg would have been.

Hp will be sold to a foreign corporation in the next two years. And Meg will receive a billion dollar bonus. The HP will move its operations to Ireland to save taxes and laying off all of it's US employee base. Outsourcing those jobs to India and China. Meg is thinking big, as in a big paycheck to her bank account. She is a service to self shark. They know the American public is complacent with their toys. They can steal I mean win because the lazy will not vote in 2014. It's up to the people now.

Sad that a company founded by 2 guys in a basement will be sold to the highest multinational bidder who will outsource American jobs all for more profit.

happen. What you haven't said is the reason why these things happen. It has to do with all the ancillary things people here and everywhere concentrate on that allows the money people to do what they want. They count on this and at times spur it on. Call them diversions, if you will. As far as specifics, that really can't be done here.... Those two guys working in the basement were concentrating on one thing, unhampered by relative inconsequentials. They couldn't do it now. Too many things in the way. Like name changes of football teams.

I grew so sick of her during her campaign; I can't imagine how repulsive she'd be if she was governor.

I hope California can continue it's Republican-free drift. The biggest snag now is pIssa. Unfortunately, it looks like he won't be going anywhere soon.

I'm not expecting any good news from HP.

ran into a classmate who was at HP for 20 years as an engineer. Brilliant woman. Quit HP, moved back home and started her own business. "Got tired of the corporate rat race".
