UN chief condemns 'atrocious' Gaza killings

Source: aljazeera

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has condemned the killing of dozens of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip by Israeli shelling as an "atrocious action" and called for an immediate end to almost two weeks of fighting.

Ban's comments on Sunday came ahead of a UN Security Council emergency meeting on Gaza at 01:30 GMT On Monday on the request of Jordan.

It also comes as US Secretary of State John Kerry is heading back to the Middle East as the Obama administration attempts to bolster regional efforts to reach a cease-fire.

"While I was on route to Doha, dozens more civilians have been killed in the Israeli military strikes . . . in Gaza ... I condemn the atrocious action," he said in a statement after talks with Attiya.

"Israel must exercise maximum restraint. I repeat my demands to all sides that they must respect international humanitarian law. The violence must stop now," he added.

It's hard to take Mr. Ban Ki-moon seriously when he condemns one side but turns a blind eye to the atrocities of the other.

but I don't think the Israeli government should just sit back and watch as rockets are fired over the border either. I'm not supporting war, but I also don't support Hamas. To be clear, I also support Israel, and I've never pretended otherwise.

Seriously? How will anybody else's opinion here make a difference over there? Will yours? Are you going to try to get everyone else to stop posting opinions about the subject too, or does me daring to post my opinion just particularly gall you/

I say again that I support Israel. You take it and twist it however you like. I'm not going to have some sort of prophetic epiphany because of what you think my words support.

Play it on a loop if you like because that is my last reply to you on the subject. You feel free to believe anything you want about me, and make all the veiled threats ("some things are regularly banned) you like. I'll keep on posting my opinions, just like everyone else will. If you think my posts should be hidden, hit the alert button.

while claiming to do so. NOT ONE ISRAELI died from the recent rocket attacks. Yet, to those like you, that gives them the right to murder women and children.

You are so high, you checked your morality at the door.

Because it isn't fair and basically makes Israel look bad (Michael Oren was on CNN Don Lemon's show tonight).

Refreshing to hear world leaders speak out against the multiple bombings off innocents.

of the war came from? It came from murder on one side and a retaliation murder on the other.

Some people WANT this war for many reasons. Such atrocities as we are seeing now do not add up to the actions from which they came. I don't care who's fucking ideology is to blame. I don't care about retaliation or other forms of socio-pathological behavior. I don't give a damn who's toe was stubbed first. The killing of innocent people is not reasonable, civil or righteous. This back and forth volleying of weaponry is sick. Those who want.. no, NEED this war are using both sides to get it.

It's one big toddler fight with deadly weapons... and the likely perpetrators are probably not even present in it.
