Ukraine has not received Canadian aid promised months ago, ambassador says
Source: Globe & Mail
Ukraines ambassador to Canada says financial aid Ottawa pledged four months ago has not yet materialized and a request for non-lethal equipment has gone unanswered.
Canada announced a $200-million-plus financial package for Ukraine in mid-March and that same month Kiev asked Ottawa and other NATO allies for supplies to bolster its fight against pro-Russian separatists . It wants equipment such as body armour, communication technology and medical supplies.
So far none of Ottawas financial aid has flowed and the Canadian government has not responded to this request for material support, said Vadym Prystaiko, Ukraines envoy to Canada.
I dont want to offend the Canadian government, he said. But, frankly, I am at the end of my patience.

Nothing unusual about that - search aid to Haiti sometime for unfulfilled promises.

This is sort of like a guy with a modest home, job and family who mortgages his house for a Rolls Royce and then goes around begging to save his house.

(10,575 posts)Defense Ministry says U.S. body armor is reliable
KYIV, July 16 /Ukrinform/. The Ukrainian Defense Ministry has denied a report published by the Ukrainska Pravda online newspaper that U.S. Interceptor bulletproof vests passed to Ukraine are unreliable, the ministry's press service has reported.
"According to the act of full-scale tests to assess the ballistic stability of Interceptor body armor produced in the United States, a sample of body armor showed excellent bulletproof stability when firing with 7.62 mm bullets of an AKM rifle and 9 mm bullets of a Makarov pistol," reads the statement.
The ministry said that according to the Central Research Institute for Armament and Military Equipment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, bulletproof vests have labels indicating that they guarantee ball protection from a 7.62 mm bullet of an M-80 machine gun.
As reported, the United States supplied 2,000 units of Interceptor body armor to Ukraine at the beginning of July this year.
On Tuesday, Ukrainska Pravda published an article in which it claimed that U.S. body armor that was transferred to the Defense Ministry and then to the zone of the anti-terrorist operation as assistance did not comply with the standards of Level IV body armor. A Ukrainska Pravda reporter made such a conclusion following the tests that were conducted by servicemen at a roadblock in the ATO zone.
