Israel bans radio advert listing names of children killed in Gaza
Source: The Guardian (UK)
The Israeli Broadcasting Authority has banned a radio advertisement from a human rights organisation which listed the names of some of the scores of children killed in Gaza since the conflict began 17 days ago.
B'Tselem's appeal against the decision was rejected on Wednesday. It intends to petition Israel's supreme court on Sunday in an effort to get the ban overturned.
The IBA said the ad's content was "politically controversial". The broadcast refers to child deaths in Gaza and reads out some of the victims' names.

(34,648 posts)This has been a very upsetting time in the world. We need to see the names.
There was a thread, in IP, blaming the media for the deaths, i guess because they film the bodies and show them. Mental gymnastics.

Not In Our Name: Jewish Activists Arrested in Sit-in at Friends of Israel Defense Forces NYC Office
http://www.democraticunderground.com/1017204489
Protests in response to Israel's assault on Gaza have drawn hundreds -- and in some cases thousands -- around the world. On Tuesday, members of Jewish Voice for Peace and Jews Say No! occupied the New York City office of the Friends of the Israel Defense Forces, a non-profit group that raises money in the United States to send to the Israeli military. For about an hour, activists read the names of the more than 600 Palestinians killed, and demanded the organization stop its fundraising for the military attacking Gaza. Nine were arrested when they refused to leave the premises. We get a video report from the protest.

I hope this ends soon. If they could just stop killing in order to start talking, there could be a deal.

(21,925 posts)Is Israel afraid of its own people, that they will start questioning their own government's course in dealing with the Palestinian issue? Losing the public's confidence is probably what Netanyahu fears most.

(6,852 posts)I am generally supportive of Israel but stuff like this is just plain stupid.
What they should have done is allow the ad to air and then put out a statement. "Hamas is telling people to say in there homes so they can be martyrs. They are launching rockets from schools and hospitals. They want there own people to die to bolster their propaganda. The blood of these kids is on their hands."
