California courts Tesla for its battery 'Gigafactory'

Source: USA Today

California's legislature has another bill on deck that could bolster its chances of becoming the home to Tesla Motor's giant battery plant, and the up to 6,500 jobs it could create.

It already passed another measure earlier this month that could give property tax credits for Tesla to locate its $4 billion to $5 billion battery "Gigafactory" in California, and Gov. Edmund G. "Jerry" Brown signed it into law.

Tesla officials say they are impressed. Even though Tesla CEO Elon Musk said in May that California is a long shot, it has since caught up to finalists Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.

"California has reentered the race and closed the gap with the other states," said Tesla spokesman Simon Sproule in an interview Thursday. He says the change has come through the state's efforts to speed up the approval process. "Now, the state has indicated that (it) wants to move as quickly as we need (it) to move."

They may just as well go to Texas like all the other job poach-ees.

As much as most rich people suck (may have misspelled his name), he seems to be one of the good ones, somewhat in the mode of Tesla--I can see why he chose the great scientist's name, as he seems to believe more in scientific improvement, than making money. I wish Tesla had been a little better at it, as we'd have probably made way more advancements. Tesla might have been a great example of a person who didn't play the game well enough, and leaned too much on his altruism in a Capitalist society.

He made all his patents available for his batter technology. That's huge, a whole lot of money is involved in that.

Elon Musk is a libertarian pro-capitalist and is all about the money. He's hired a union buster to head HR and has rehired NUMMI managers to keep out ex-NUMMI union workers, especially those workers who were known "troublemakers".

Him making his patents available to the public is one of his lies. It's just a set of assertions made on the Tesla blog post which has no legal basis.

Article on Tesla's "patent pledge":

There's been numerous lies from Musk. The most deceptive is how green is a Tesla. 30-40% of the electric power in the U.S. comes from dirty coal and its 70% in China. The only way to stop climate change is to stop using any fossil fuels and take public transportation, bike or walk.

Then they can freely pollute all the want, pay minimum wages to their workers, and have a pretty good chance of blowing up one day in the news. It's sad the way "money talks" in our society. Damn, I'm depressing myself.

whom are owner/operators and drives them out of business.

Yeah, help your high tech pal, but slam the little guy with heavy costs to keep up with "clean idle" engines and special kits just to operate at Port of LA/Long Beach. They offer all these breaks to get "jobs" but do they offer any kind assistance like low interest loans to finance the 5K - 10K cost of modifying older engines to meet new standards?

I know anecdotes are not statistics; however, I do know many guys who are no longer in business for themselves and their family but who are now working for big companies for much lower wages.
